I purchased a bottle of this from the brewery. Belgian Red pours a dark reddish hue with a decent head and a bit of lacing. The aroma is sweet and tart at the same time with the cherry really standing out. The flavor is also sweet and just a bit of tart that really brings out the cherry flavor. This is a truly phenomenal beer.

I tried this gem at a friends house. While it might not be my favorite beer style this one was quite good. It poured a rose color with white head that left a spotty lace. From the moment the bottle open until the last drink it was cherry awesomeness. The taste was like a cherry pie. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a special beer and well worth the try.

The smell of cherries overwhelms you upon pouring this beer. The beer pours a small white head with little to lacing. The taste is of sweet cherries from the first sip to the last. One of the best fruit beers I have tried.

NG really knows how to make a fruit beer... Now that I've completed the trilogy of their standard 750ml fruit beers, I'm a believer! Even if you don't like fruit beers, you'll probably like this (as well as Raspberry Tart and Serendipity). I think RT is my favorite of the 3 but it would take a side by side to really tell. All around fantastic and search this out.

Was happy to get to try this and two other NG beers with some friends. Nose is bright, fresh, but not quite indicative of how intensely fruity their flavor is here. Impeccable mouthfeel - would drink this again any chance I got.

This drinks like a big beer despite the 4% abv
Looks like sone one took a frozen juice concentrate and cutoff the end of it and plopped the juice sickle in my glass where it melted
Smells of fruit skin and tannins reminds me of a grape or cherry you that has been washed and air dried you don't smell the juiciest yet but you know ow it's right around the corner waiting to fill your mouth and take you on a trip you may be ready for but at this point it's too late and this is happening like right fuckin now
Taste is a cherry pureé big rich perfectly ripe cherry stuffed in a blender obliterated for my drinking pleasure it is so thick and juicy it amazes me there isn't a category for just New Glarus fruit beers because no one does it quite like this fills your mouth like over excited high-school quarter back on prom night and it coats everything and it's a flavor that lasts. Great mouth feel
Overall great beer would revisit at anytime it's put in front of me it's a little rich but oh so worth it once you get a hold of it and try it for the first time. I'd bang this again and again.

An aggressive pour yields a decent finger worth of reddish tan foam, for the beer type the retention is actually admirable, the lacing wispy to nonexistent. Cherry red wood colored liquid, as close to brown as orange, starts off with a sizable amount of bubbles which stop streaming after a few minutes, has a clean glow to it. Pure cherry pie nose, equally sweet and sour albeit the level of concentration makes the former linger longer, pie crust flakes, vanilla, touch of orange reduction, has a more vinous texture if allowed to warm some. Medium to full-bodied, here too the carbonation starts off well put seems to lack the strength to persist. The oak more prominent, brings added sourness rather than creamy sweetness. The cherries are fresh and lively even if you would be hard pressed for greater flavor concentration and ripeness. The dough and brown sugar accents ensure it keeps feeling like pie. The touch of orange citrus aligns with the sour dimension to bring greater balance. This is a beer which needs simply to be taken at face value for what it is. If you can do that, and like cherries, it is pretty rocking.

This beer pours a nice dark red color. The head was fairly thick, and a nice pink color. The nose is very strong with cherries. The taste is outstanding. It has a strong cherry profile. It doesn't feel like you're drinking beer, but a delicious glass of juice. If it were a higher ABV, that could be dangerous.

Bottle poured into glass.
A-Looks like red crème soda.
S-Sweet cherry.
T-Sweet cherry soda, tartness even suggests
a hint of cherry limeade at times. It's a big flavor.
Not particularly complex but big.

M-Big carbonation, almost like soda.
O-Pretty good for a sweet fruity style.

T-sweet cherry with a mild tartness and oak. very refreshing
F-smooth but pretty carbonated, almost like a soda but not in a bad way at all
O-love this offering from NG. Big fan of this beer

Large shared bottle.
Given that this is a fruit beer, it really couldn't taste any better.
The feel too is about perfect.
Aroma: cherry dominated. Appealing but a bit too much cherry candy in the nose.

Pours a reddish brown color, very low clarity. Small tan head, just a tinge of red. Doesn't last long but does leave a bit of lacing.

Aroma is big cherry, mostly sweet but there is a hint of tartness. Oak. Pretty much pure cherry juice.

Taste like the aroma, just straight cherry. Missing the hint of tartness though. Fairly sweet.

Medium body with a fairly crisp mouth feel. Pretty high carbonation. Sweet but not syrupy. Very fruity.

Nice fruity beer. Very low complexity but still very tasty.

Takes on the appearance of red and brown, mostly red, very pretty. The head is almost a full inch of pink and light purple color.

More cherry than any beer I've ever smelled before. Just pungent, delectable.

So much cherry to taste, barely perceptible oak and super mild tartness. These are juicy way more than tart. This is the best fruit beer of all time possibly. They also seem to keep quite well with age. Just pumped full of cherry all the time, mild wheat contribution.

Always on the lookout for this beer.

Shared a bottle - pours light into glass. Smell is very fruity. Little head. Not as tasty as Serendipity or Raspberry Tart, but still very pleasant. Feel is very light - almost wine-like.

I had a 12-oz glass when I visited the brewery, as it was the only beer they had on tap that I had not tried before.

Look: deep brownish red, no head
Smell: Lots of cherries
Taste: Lots of cherries, very sweet and syrupy. Tastes like some sort of cherry soda.
Feel: Smooth, fairly carbonated, medium bodied.

I couldn't taste much besides the cherry. There was way too much cherry and sweetness for me to be able to enjoy more than the first third. I'm sure it's better in smaller amounts and paired with some desert food.

Pours a deep rich mahogany-like purple. Almost a plum color. The cherry aroma emanates. It tastes like cherries, but with enough tartness to balance some of the sweetness. It is very sweet though. A very good dessert beer, but not sure I'd like this if it opened my night.

Pours crisp brownish-red hue with pretty little head.

Strong smell of tart cherries. Taste strongly of tart cherries - but somehow without being overly sweet.

Very light beer for the strength of the cherries with a good carbonation.

This beer is best served with dessert - chocolate is best - as its almost too much to drink on its own, although I do often do just that.

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a reddish medium brown color with a 3/4 inch pinkish off-white head that retains well before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and some streaks of sheer surface foam. Sticky sheet of lacing.

S- Huge fresh raspberry aroma.

T- Just straight sweet raspberry but not in a cough syrupy way. Slight tartness but really just a thick raspberry soda.

M- Tangy with medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- This beer works best two ways: paired with chocolate or used as a cocktail mixer. On its own, only 4-6 oz is tolerable at a time. Just too sweet and very one-note.

This New Glarus offering redefines the word beer for me as the Belgian Red is basically a cider like wine. They use over a pound of cherries per bottle to give it that deep red hue, significant carbonation, a full-bodied sweetness, yet a balanced tart finish that leaves you wanting more.

Pours from the bottle a lovely hazy red with an off-white head that leaves spotty lacing.
Nice aroma! Cherry and dark berries hit my nostrils with a nice bit of funk.
Taste is tart cherry all over but with a hint of sweetness and that underlying bit of nice funkiness.
Mouthfeel is smooth and bubbly.
Damn this is excellent, palate-cleansing goodness.

Pours a burguny red, with a large amount of foamy white head. Smell is strong on dark cherries, some strawberry and light fruit. Taste is super fruity, lots of cherry, raspberry and some cranberry; slightly tart. Very little carbonation, medium mouthfeel. Excellent fruit beer, just tastes like I'm drinking juice. Well done.

25 oz. bottle into a tulip glass

A - Beer pours a 1 finger high frothy/sudsy head that a dissipates quickly to nothing. The head is off white in color, while it lasts. Beer itself is garnet in color and clear in appearance with moderate carbonation rising at a moderate pace towards the surface. 4/5

S - Aroma is very strong on the cherry front, almost medicinal (somewhat reminds me of cherry flavored Nyquil). Very sweet and syrupy aroma. Somewhat of a malty/white bready base along with an herbal hop undertone. Candy sweetness throughout. 4/5

T - Sweet dark stone fruit and raspberry jam hits me straight away which transitions into the tartness of the cherries. A moderate malty undertone is present throughout the first third of the sip. Somewhat of an earthy middle which transitions to an herbal hop finish to this beer along with a tart cherry tartness that cleanses the palate of the herbal hop and its associated bitterness. 4.25/5

M - Carbonation tickle up front reminds me of a soda pop fizziness. Wheat provides a nice smoothness to the remainder of the sip. Light to medium in body, crisp and slightly drying on the back end. 4.5/5

O - Interesting Belgian Red here with a huge concentration on tart cherries. There is some sweetness that balances out the tartness but the tartness does override the sweetness for the most part. Transitions between flavors are stark and obvious, allowing for this beer to be approachable and not overly complicated. A bit too much like cherry Nyquil or cough drops to warrant anything higher than a 4 overall from me. 4/5

Finally got around to buying this, and I was not disappointed. It actually reminded me a lot of Very Cherry, which used to be a sparkling, non-alcoholic drink made by Von Stiehl Winery in Algoma, Wis that I used to enjoy as a kid. You can't taste the alcohol but you can definitely taste the cherry.

I really liked this beer until I got halfway through my glass. Its great fruit beer but its very very sweet. Starts to coat the back of your throat like when you ate too much candy on halloween as a kid. Very jammy, tons of cherry in this, basically its like drinking a liquid cherry Jolly Rancher. There is a good amount of tart cherry in this beer I just wish it was less sweet.
