Pours a medium reddish Amber with 2 inch quickly dissipating head leaves minimal lacing. Smell is tart with cherry notes. Taste is total tart cherry juice with a nice bubbly feel. Great fruit beer!

New Glarus Belgian Red

From 3/18/14 tasting notes... Enjoyed on tap at Champps Americana Brookfield, WI. This was served in a 12 oz stemmed tulip. Served chilled...

A) Ruby red brew with a small pinkish head that quickly dissipates. Good clarity...

S) Wonderful aroma of cherries, that manages to be both sweet and tart. Nothing artificial about this scent at all. It's fresh and inviting.

T) Near the nose... The cherries are more sweet than tart, but it's not overly sweet. Although admittedly, I used to find this beer uncomfortably sweet, and I'd never tackle a bottle on my own. I've had it many times over the years, and it's really grown on me. Now I enjoy the balance and complexities of this brew. There is an earthy quality and you can pick up the oak as well. I prefer this chilled, but there's nothing wrong with taking your time, and letting it warm a bit. Obviously, the 4% ABV is a non-factor.

M) Medium bodied with lively carbonation that keeps this one going down nicely.

O) A fantastic beer... New Glarus brews amazing fruit beers. Just amazing. The fact that I can go get some solar salt at Walmart, and grab a bottle of this for $8.99 almost makes tolerating Wisconsin's shitty winters worth the trouble. Almost...
