Pours out a thick, creamy dark brown, resembling spring runoff from the mountains and sits a deep, chocolate black with almost no light shining through. A large off-brown head sits on top, fading to a light skim, holding to the sides and leaving a good amount of lacings.
Smells lighty toasted with boatloads of wheat on every corner. Massive yeast presence in the foreground with a mild walnut aroma. Traces of steak roasted with cloves and caramel fall along the sides with a thick, sludgy chocolate topping. Light, herbal hops dance, well, swim through the thick, muddy aroma.
Tastes toasted and rich with chocolate and caramel up front. Full roasted presence comes out with an even bigger dosage of yeast slathered all over the toungue. Mocha latte amounts of coffee strike a chord and are complimented with just the slightest hints of cinnamon and mildly peppery hops. Finish is smoothly bittered, thick with nice roasted flavors long after.
Intensly smooth and creamy with an equally matched carbonation that massages the tongue and just rolls all the way down the hatch. Big, meaty body for a weiss, about medium-full. It's just begging to be chewed.
This beer will surely make up for the lack of it's opposing seasonal, the Solstice wheat, which will sadly never be seen again. I can handle this instead. Something is working very well at New Glarus.
