Picked up at NG Beer Depot 4/12/16. Bottled 0686. Early afternoon tasting. Don't tell my wife.

Pours nicely w/ 1/2 inch white head. Dissipates quickly. Very clear for a Zwickel, but there is a very faint touch of haze. Beautiful golden beer.

Smells like a brewery, a bakery, and an old hay barn. Again, nailed the nose for the style. There is no question that you are drinking a fresh lager.

Bright, bready, a very complex hop profile that I haven't found in many other US lagers. It starts with hops, then the sweetness washes in, lager yeast character never fades. The flavors continue to nudge your tastebuds well after you've sipped.

This is a lager that sticks around. Just when it seems to get too sweet, an exhale brings back the malts and hops. Not sure how Dan did this, but the feel on this is both refreshing and robust.

Greater than the sum of its parts, which are considerable already. The only comparable US zwickel that I've had is the Metropolitan Zwickel, but I feel like the journey to this beer takes it over the top. It's clear that NG wants to take care of this product.

I was skeptical, but this is well worth the price tag. As complex and satisfying as any IPA I've had. Wish this could become an every day drinker.

$12 4-Pack
New Glarus Beer Depot

I have to say, I'm unusually excited about a new zwickel from New Glarus...The pour is pure golden, bright and shiny. A soft haze runs throughout the body while streams of carbonation burst to the surface from multiple spots on the bottom of the glass. The pure white foam rises to an easy finger in height while large bubbles decorate the density. Sticky lace clings to the glass like glue. A great looking beer, to be sure.

This zwickel is straight up pure and fresh. Super clean. Huge notes of freshly baked bread leap from the glass, crusty with the soft, chewy interior. A softly sweet quality runs throughout. Mildly floral hops show up mid palate before deliciously grassy notes pop up on the backend. Freshly cracked, straight from the sunny field, grains meet the bready notes in the most complimentary of ways.

The flavor profile closely mimics the nose and for good reason. It's greatly bready off the bat with a smattering of freshly cracked grains mixed in for good measure. The floral hops, again, make their presence known mid palate before quickly segueing into bright, freshly cut grass. A squeeze of lemon brightens it up even more. Each flavor aspect brings it's own unique cleanliness, there is no muddling in the least.

The mouthfeel is the best aspect of this beer, and that's saying a lot. It's moderate in weight with a body so plush that it's pure luxury. Immensely soft on the tongue with just enough carbonation to keep things from becoming stagnant. There's a buzzsaw grassy bitterness that lingers long after each drink as the finish slowly dries out. This beer is so easy to drink that there's no point in even trying to describe it.

I get rather excited when New Glarus comes out with new German style beer but especially when they release a pilsner. As a matter of fact, the couple best pilsners I have ever had have come from New Glarus (Hometown Blonde and Bohemian Pils). This beer idoesn't quite live up to those two but it certainly is delicious. It's clean, bright, and delicious. Buy some if you're in the area.

Pours a cold-haze gold with a foamy white head that fades fairly fast and leaves spotty lace.
Aroma is baked bread, cracker, spice with a hint of yogurt.
Taste is biscuit, fruity yeast notes, grain.
Mouthfeel is beautifully well rounded, a bit bubbly and almost creamy.
Excellent beer.

12 oz. bottle. Slightly hazy golden body. Smells of sourdough bread, grassy hops, and a slight green apple fruitiness. Tastes of grassy hops up front, a touch of grain behind it that turns into doughy malt flavors. Back end is just a little yeasty with an almost tangy bite, again reminiscent of that sourdough aroma. Finishes with lingering doughy sweetness and spicy hop bitterness after the tang dies down. Light body. I am certainly no expert on this style, but this seems to be pretty damned good.

Light yellow color with thin, fast-fading head. Sweet smelling malt, floral hops. Hops really shine in the taste and malts balance. A beer that could be enjoyed in volume. Medium light body and average carbonation.

Brassy gold with a compact but sturdy head of white foam. Arcs of lace form around the edges of the glass. Lasting surface coverage after the first few sips. Languidly rising trails of carbonation.

Soft aroma of crackery pilsner malt, twist of lemon peel, supple yeastiness. Taste is pleasant with a soft light maltiness and a hint of lemon and grassy noble hops. Finishes dry with a hint of bitterness and lingering crackery malt notes. Feels crisp and clean, effervescent with a biting carbonation level. Light bodied, supple and smooth.

Overall this is great stuff, a perfect summer lawnmower beer. Finely tuned and streamlined, this beer is basically flawless. Made my way through a case easily, and saving the rest for the dog days of summer.

12 fl oz bottle sealed with red New Glarus pressure cap.
poured into New Glarus glass beer stien.

Appearance: Translucent yellow bodied beer with large voluminous soapy head.

Smell: Doughy and bready malts. Nice cereal grain note from the malt as well. Light fruity yeast. Man that New Glarus german yeast strain always smells glorious!

Taste: Mild sweetness from the malts and a "barely there" earthy bitterness. Cereal grains. Light fruity yeast. Big dough flavor.

Mouthfeel: light body with moderate carbonation. Creamy carbonation. This is infinitely drinkable.

Overall: The Thumbprint is the same as the unplugged version of this. Still fantastic beer german lager brewed at New Glarus.
