Notes: Vintage 2015 is an American geuze that is naturally coolship soured in New Glarus’ Wild Fruit Cave. The beer features Wisconsin wheat and aged Hallertau hops that impart citrus fruit and farm aromas, and is also 100-percent spontaneously fermented in oak.

Poured in to a 12 oz snifter, blind - I couldn't tell exactly what this was: it was evident from the nose and color that the beer was some variety of sour, but I really couldn't tell exactly what. I knew that it was a New Glarus sour, and likely an R&D... that was all I had to go on.

It certainly has that gueuze lambic dryness - unlike a typical American sour, it is not sweet, nor is it at all syrupy. The nose is obviously that of a sour, and slightly funky and wild. It's an excellent beer, easily as good as a Cantillon gueuze.

Pours yellow and foggy with a decent head.

Smells crisp, with sharp nodes of black pepper and horse blanket. Aroma-wise, this is the closest to a classic Belgian gueze that I've seen an American brewer get. It's a dry and deceptively simplistic aroma, but is nonetheless fantastic and quite difficult to brew.

Tastes fucking phenomenal. Dry throughout, light citrus and hay up front, musty bacterial tartness in the middle, a bone dry finish of tart lemon and cherries. Any time I have this, with any pallet, it's always a showstopper.

I bought 3 bottles of this in June of 2016. Here we're in March of 2016 , and this here beer is capital-P Prime condition. Easily the best American gueuze I've ever had.

2015 Vintage is a near perfect looking beverage. It's brightly polished golden with near perfect clarity after a careful pour. A few very active streams of carbonation rush to the surface. The foam is impressive for any beer style but especially for this beer style. It's pure white and tight, a couple fingers in height before slowly fading to a cap. Patchy lacing is left behind here and there. The foam never disappears.

The nose is loaded with character. There are huge orchard notes. Underripe pears and Granny Smith apples. A touch of cider vinegar in the middle with a great play between sweet and sour. There are minerals, there is wet stone and the backend brings with it gobs of musty attic and wildflowers all over the top of a softly sweet wheatiness. This beer will have you salivating immediately.

The flavor manages to step it up, somehow. This beer is big on the apple notes, Granny Smith and another, slightly sweeter apple are in cider form off the bat. That cider has gone to vinegar in the middle, just a touch. The sweet & sour flashes through mid-palate before the wet stone, damp oak, musty-ness, and wildflowers seamlessly enter the fray. This beer smells and tastes like the inside of a cave but way more palatable, obviously. There's a soft sweetness, where that aforementioned pear comes in, and a twangy wheat presence. This is some good suds.

The mouthfeel fits this beer just right. The body is light and effervescent, even a little prickly. It runs through at a good clip but that brightness, that carbonation, that tartness manages to wash across every surface. It finishes appropriately dry with that lingering tartness. It makes your mouth water after each swallow. Incredibly easy to put away.

Vintage 2015 is another great beer from New Glarus. It's bright and bold yet nuanced and seamless. Each aspect segues perfectly into the next. Whatever wild bits in the air that bring along that apple quality, that's unique and welcomed. I'm a huge fan of these New Glarus Vintages.

Brewed 2012; bottled June 2015.

Drank 8/8/20 @ Pierce's.

Cloudy bright orange appearance.

Small white head which quickly dissipated; almost no lace.

Peach & mildly tart orange citrus notes in the nose and in the flavor; bright & bold, and very enjoyable.

A real nice American oude gueuze.

From the label:
Brewed June 2015
Bottled August 2015

Consumed on March 14, 2020

Pours a nice murky, hazy golden color. Heavy carbonation rising in the glass. 3 finger white and very fluffy head. Head retention is great, and there's beautiful lacing on the glass.
The nose has a ton of floral notes. There's a hint of apple. A hint of malty biscuit in it.
Taste - There's the wild funk to this beer. The apple aroma did carry over to the flavor, but it's a subtle undertone. Definite malty backbone that merges the flavors all together.
The body is crisp, and full. There's a bit of a pop from the carbonation.
Tasty and highly recommended offering from New Glarus.

Yellow with a white head.

Very tropical and fruity. A lot of melon flavors and some zest. Light funk. Nothing overly sour. A bit of tartness as well.

Easy to drink this one. Well done.

Edit: 12/2017 dry with more tartness and acidity. Still very fruity. Some wet oak.

Bottle shared by Khalil. Thanks man.

Light golden body with a small white collar. New world meets old world. Funky, tart, white grape, oak. Delicious.

Yellow bodied beer with bone white head that quickly dissipates. Smells of acetic sourness and lemon. Lots of oak and minimal funk. Tastes of lemon citrusy character which melds into a mineral / well water profile. Lots of oak and light funk. Light bodied beer. Crisp and dry. Pretty decent sourness probably a 5.5 out of 10. Really nice.
