Hearty and full-bodied, this is a "big" bier. Brewed in the Reinheitsgebot tradition, our bock comes by its mahogany hue naturally. You can expect this bier to be complex and smooth with deep chocolate and coffee undertones, complementing the rich bouquet. No matter if you choose to enjoy our bock before, during or after dinner, remember to serve at about 48°F. Because like many good things in life...the warmer the bock is, the sweeter it gets.

12oz bottle "C244 13:39" poured I to a pint glass shows a clear bronze body, however lifeless. A cap of off white bubbles quickly disappears to nothing and leaves a clean glass behind.
Muted aromas include caramel and dark fruits and flows smoothly into the flavor. Mocha hints join the dried fruits.
Mouthfeel is a lighter leaning medium with a residual slickness.
Overall a solid Bock. Sweet, yet not so much as to limit consumption.

Had on tap. Clear dark brown with reddish hints, beige head, tons of lacing all the way. Toasted caramel meets dark grainy yeast in the nose with a dusting of cocoa. Taste adds raisin and toffee. Feel is smooth malt all the way to the finish with the yeast added some roughness to contrast, appropriately lighter body. The wife liked it. Paired well with gouda

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from the Festival Store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured a clear rich amber with no head and no lace. The scent had very nice typical bock notes with sweet caramel malt. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bold carmel bock malt base with finishing hop presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

12oz can, it has been close to 16 years since I had this one, it was early on in my beer endeavors and I loved it! And then I never saw it again - until this week!
L: foamy tan head caps a dark caramel colored bier
S: caramel, grain, floral & herbal hops
T: caramelized grain, toffee, fruit, faint chocolate & light roast coffee as the brewer suggests; hops are modest while being floral and herbal
F: fuller bodied, sweet & sticky, moderate carbonation, balanced finish
O: something about this beer does it for me. Still love it although the score is toned down slightly with a proper review. (2008 = 4.5/5)

No complaints, but I'm choosing a New Glarus Back 40 bock over this if I have the choice.

a stranger in the packers parking lot party handed this to me, you cannot beat that midwest hospitality! sort of reminds me of a bigger doppelbock type, and honestly as good as this is, the first swig has me reminiscing about throwing up spaten optimator when i was much much younger and knew nothing about it before having way too many bottles, not actually a bad memory because it was associated with an important learning, and maybe its even a compliment to this, it should at least speak to its german authenticity in terms of both grain and yeast in this. sweet in aroma and flavor, some underlying raisin and fig notes with hints of tobacco and powdered cocoa, molasses and maple, a concentrated grain richness, toasty and warming and inviting, a bit more expressive in taste than nose, as i never let it get real warm and the conditions didnt permit it anyway. dried cherry to me, date sugar and brown sugar, this is very sweet even cold, too sweet to really pound on, and that made me think it was stronger than it is, because the pace is so slow anyway, lots of body too. hints of smoke, clove, and dark bread fresh from the over, love the yeast element in play here and the old world character, its really nicely made beer, not a session thing but an awesome wintery brew with a lot of meat on the bone for its restrained abv. thank you stranger, its always read to have a new one from the legends at new glarus! sturdy bock to say the least.

A faint scent of sour mash, banana, and vanilla was huffable after popping the cap. A finger and a half of Café au lait-colored foam overlaid a clear mahogany, then quickly settled in. In the glass, vanilla cookie dough and banana wafted off. A faint carbonated maltiness on the tip of my tongue quickly gave way to to a sour astringency that lingered after the swallow and dried out my mouth. Not pleasant. Another New Glarus that doesn't do it for me.

12oz bottle. Etched on bottle is '23213095573B'.
Clear, brown colored body. Brief light khaki head, which results in an island and a thin ring. No lacing.
Aroma is malty, with dark bread, caramel, and a bit of chocolate.
Taste is sweet, with dark bread malts, definite chocolate, and a bit of coffee. Floral and earthy hops. Stays sweet and earthy in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Slight metallic feel. Hidden ABV%. Okay carbonation.
Sweet and full of dark bread and chocolate. Pretty body color although with no lasting impression of carbonation.

An excellent Bock that isn't too sweet; instead striking a great balance between the dark malts and earthy hops, the coffee cocoa and the floral grass
