Pours very dark brown with a thin tan head that hangs on, leaving some lacing.

The smell is of fresh, robust coffee/espresso.

The taste is of deep roasted coffee/espresso with sweet dark chocolate. A bit of cream mixes in. Finishes with sweet malt, deep roast, and bittering, juicy hops all woven together, leaving a wonderful, lasting aftertaste.

It hits full-bodied and is silky smooth.

It's heavy with the coffee, yet not one-dimensional. A wonderfully complex, balanced, smooth brew. Very well-done! Exceptionally enjoyable!

I hate stouts, absolutely hate them. But, this beer was awesome! In full disclosure, I just opened a 2012-2013 Coffee Stout that I had stored in my beer refrigerator since last season. It didn't miss a beat. I don't drink coffee anymore, but this beer has the perfect mixture of coffee flavor and beer qualities. They didn't over-do the "coffee-ness" like so many other brewers do when making a coffee beer. I enjoy almost all NG beers, especially their fruit beers. I like to think they are the best at flavored beers in general, and their normal beers aren't far behind. Cheers!

Pours lighter bodied black. Three fingers head with nice retention.

Aroma is quite understated. Mild coffee and roast.

Taste is a very easy drinking coffee and roast flavor. A sugar cookie type sweetness is also apparent.Flavor is more pronounced than the nose but still quiet subtle.

Medium mouthfeel and carbonation.

Certainly not the most aggressive coffee stout.
