12oz bottle, vintage 2000. Shared reluctantly by the one and only, Bobby91w. Served in an over-sized Founders tulip. This one goes out to all the Tickers...

A: Pours a dark, rich looking mahogany. Upon closer inspection there's actually a decent amount of clarity. Slight cream colored head, leaving a spotty slick on top. Lacing is sticky, but light and fleeting.

S: Big raisins, plums, brandy, bourbon, toffee and other dark fruits. Very rich and complex, each time I inhale I pick out something new. Fantastic.

T: Muted with predominant caramel and toffee flavors. Burnt/bready sugary dark malt finish was interesting. Slight raisin notes, but over all the wonderful dark fruits found in the nose are gone. On the positive, the high ABV is completely absent.

M: Thin and oily, carbonation is little to non-existent.

O: Looked great and smelled great, but sadly father time took his toll on everything else. I usually enjoy Eisbocks, but this almost tasted like an watered down English Barleywine. I'm assuming this was a much better beer when it was fresher.

It's always nice to try such a rare beer, but like many others they never seem to live up to your expectations. I'd avoid trying to track this whale down, your efforts would best be spent elsewhere...

12 oz bottle from 2000

Huge malty, brown sugar, molasses, fresh pumpernickel and dark fruit aroma. Body is a deep brown color with a quickly fading wispy white head. Fore is very bready..pumpernickel notes galore. Quite malty, some caramel notes, slight oxidation gives it an almost barley wine finish. Finish also holds mild dark fruit notes, but the pumpernickel flavors are what linger in the far aftertaste. Alcohol is more felt (via flushed cheeks and a hot throat) than tasted.

It has held up pretty dang well and having recently had many NG beers for the first time I am quite impressed with this brewery. It is definitely at the top of my "favorite" breweries list now.
