In general, I am amazed that folks states-side feel that our attempts at this style are better than ones made in Bohemia, Moravia, or across Germany. But this one is actually worth it. A truly satisfying and complex masterpiece by one of the ten to fifteen best breweries in the U.S. For those of us lucky enough to have lived in Wisconsin, this beer made other attempts at this style seem foolish.

This is a pretty quality pilsner that I don’t frequently drink because when I’m drinking light, I prefer really great beers like Highlife and Pabst.

What I like most about this beer is that it’s American and yet it’s not an American pilsner. It’s the real deal. It’s got hops, real noticeable hops and it actually doesn’t have to be consumed ice cold like all other American pilsners. NG’s people’s beer actually tastes good above 38 degrees.

The swiss edel is also rather creamy and smooth compared to most pilsners. Super drinkable with great texture.

A rocking good beer that is too often overlooked by the hardcore beer guys.

Pours into my SN pint glass a nice amber orange with a thin bubbly head that quickly dissipates into a ring around the top. Aromas of crisp sweet barley, slightly fruity with a dash of herbal hops in the nose as well. Fairly standard overall, doesn't grab me all that much.

First sip brings a nice sweet pale maltiness that has some light citric fruit tones. A somewhat mellow earthy herbal hop hits the back of the palate. Finishes clean with a slightly bready yeast. An easy drinking pils for sure.

Mouthfeel is good with enough malt to make it a bit full in the mouth. A beer that achieves its goal of being a German Pilsener but not much else. Not a brew that I would actively seek out, but works well on a hot summer day.

Big thanks to onecrazymofo for this opportunity.
Pours a clear, golden color...lots of carbonation as I hear it crackling in my pint glass. Less than a half finger of white head w/ a fairly aggressive pour, but sits pretty on top for most of the pint.
Lacing is tight, but thin and slides its way back into the beer within seconds.
The aroma is very nice...very subtle malt sweetness up front.
Wow...a nice pucker after the first taste. Slightly sweet and just a touch sour. I have not had many Pilseners, but I dig its style....it is very refreshing and not as carbonated as I was expecting. The mouthfeel is not thin and the aftertaste is very clean...even the burps are refreshing.
I could really enjoy a bunch of these on a nice sunny day...then again, the weather sucks here presently, and this new brew is lifting my spirits...thanks again ocmf.

Beer pours a light golden color with a quarter inch of head with a ring of lacing that lasts throughout. Hints of flowers in the aroma. Taste is slightly sweet at beginning with a hoppy finish. Mouthfeel is nice and full. Very drinkable brew, definately a pilsner that I will be frequenting when the opportunity arises. Let this beer warm a little, not room temperature, but it gets better when it's not ice cold.

12oz. bottle courtesy of AKSmokedPorter.

Bubbly clear yellow in color. Fizzy. Sparkling head of white foam rests atop. Smattering of lace on the glass. Aromas of "pilsener" (no sh!t)...crackery/biscuit malt notes blended with a hoppy spice note. Flavors see more of the aromas. Solid malt backbone with spicy/zingy hop accents. Dry...crisp finish. Solid in nearly every facet. Super summertime thirst-quencher.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass. Bottle code of 0743.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden yellowish orange with a lot of rising bubbles. About two fingers of off white head which slowly recede into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A crisp and bready malt forward aroma with solid hints of biscuit and earthy hops. Bready malts upfront with solid sweet hints of biscuit, grains, crackers, straw, and yeast. Noticeable earthy hints of noble hops giving a somewhat spicy scent. Mild hints of fruity esters of apple and grape. A pretty solid Euro style pilsener aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a crisp and refreshing bready taste of biscuit, grains, and spicy hops. Sweet and bready malts throughout with good notes of biscuit, grains, crackers, yeast, and straw. Light fruity notes of apple, grapes, and some lemon zest. Some spicy earthy notes provided by a noticeable presence of noble hops. A pretty clean and solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and slightly prickly.

Overall: A solid take on the European Pilsener style. Solid biscuity taste with some nice fruit hints.

Appearance - crisp, golden, strawlike yellow from this pour with very little lacing or head.

Smell - holy farm smell to it. Lots of oats and straw and smells like a brewery on a brewing day

Taste - crisp, light, easy, cereal flavor to it

Mouthfeel - very easy to drink and leaves easily as well

Overall - a true pils and quite refreshing! I could see myself having a few of these

(Served in a stemmed strange)
A- This beer pours a crystal clear golden orange body with a lumpy pale white head supported by loose chains of tiny bubbles.

S- The clean aroma has hints of DMS dried corn that grows as it opens but otherwise a very clean aroma.

T- The clean flavor has a touch of sweetness to the pale malt flavor with a faint buttery note that grows a bit as it warms. There is a slight tart hop note in the finish.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a scrubbing fizz that grows as it warms.

O- This beer is not real crisp but is pretty clean with a touch of sweetness but not enough character to make it sessionable.

Thanks to Homerbag for this extra.

Pours a nice clean golden pilsner with a white head that actually retains quite well. grassy nose with grain and slight straw. Taste follows, very lagery graininess, some hay, and a tiny bit of pepper. A slight cream. wierd i know, but its there, not obvious and works well with it though. A good mouthfeel that is just a touch too thick. Drinkability is quite good, a defenite good choice for a lawn mower refresher. Overall a solid pils from NG, as always, I am satisified with their product.

This is my favorite American style pilsener, period. New Glarus has outdone themselves with this beauty.

Pours a rich crystalline golden color...nearly amber. Dense, creamy head. Very inviting. Nice sweet malty smell with faint (noble?) hop notes. And this needn't be sucked down ice cold. Actually, it considerable better out of the fridge for a awhile.

Smooth and creamy, and yet perky with CO2, and obviously attentively lagered. Full mouthfeel is New Glarus' trademark and it really pushes this beer to the top. Phenomenal to drink. Sweet near caramelly malts caress the taste buds, mingling with grain, and husk flavors. The noble hops enter and keep things nicely balanced, grassy and brown. I could go for a little more hop snap, then it might be truly perfect..
Quite honestly, this is one of the most complex pils I have had. The creaminess seems to bring out myriad hidden flavors. Maybe some faint vanilla, honey and herbal notes as well.

Great beer. On of NG;s upper tier. Excels in the spring to early summer. But since it is brewed year round, it's great anytime.

New Glarus' Edel-pils reeks of rich, grainy malt, and not surprisingly, it's found in the flavor as well. Gently spicy and mildly floral hops round things out; and it's really well-balanced, displaying its rich maltiness without ever becoming sweet. The mouthfeel is great with its medium body and very fine-bubbled, restrained carbonation lending a caress to the tongue before warming to become creamy and smooth. Always satisfying and highly drinkable, this is one of my favorite beers (and that says alot!).

12oz single, Riley's

appearance: pours a dull pale straw color, fairly clear, small bubbly head forms with virtually no lacing

smell: pretty typical for the style...strong peppery malt structure, grassy, earthy, slightly fruity (apple, lemon peel), mild hop presence of the floral nature

taste: crisp and clean, spicy and peppery hops on top of a deep malt profile...apple, lemon peel, slight orange fruit flavors, touch of vanilla, touch of honey

mouthfeel: medium-light, not watery, clean crisp and fresh

drinkability: very

A big thanks to Crazynelson for trading this.

Poured into a clear stein, its a brilliant gold with a thick white head. The flavor has a light dry-biscuit malt backbone with a bite of spicy, lemon hops for balance. Something about the body almost makes this beer juicy and seemingly extra drinkable. I could down it by the liter stein and I wish it were summer, not March, so I could have my thirst properly quenched by this fine pilsner.
