Pouring this beer from a 12 oz. bottle into a whiskey tumbler glass, it pours out the shade of a dark wood stain. It formed a thin crown of tingy yellow bubbles and has ruby highlights. 4
The nose brings heavy chocolate; resembling a tootsie roll/pop big time. Pretty unique in that way. 4
The taste comes in much the same way. Huge tootsie pop presence. Pretty one dimensional, but I do like that unique tootsie roll chocolate layer. Might have a dark crystal malt type presence on the back and also some slight notes of toffee. It has a very English feel, which I like. 4
The mouthfeel is on the thin side of medium bodied, but for the style and ABV, it fits. 4
Overall, this thing is pretty smooth and doesn’t have any flaws. Definitely well rounded. 4

smell - slight sweet chocolate with a good toasted malt
taste - a lot more chocolate in the taste than in the smell, still slight toasted malt but more chocolate than anything else.
feel - medium body with a creamy light carbonation

This is very underrated IMO. To pack this much flavor into a moderate ABV and have it still taste like a beer? Impressive! Also, I think my bottle was a bit old (but clearly had been kept in a cooler) - so kudos to NG!

Mostly cocoa in the nose
Cocoa, milk chocolate, english malt, a bit subdued
Rich mouthfeel
Not a NG standout for me, but solid and enjoyable.

Pours black with a big, mocha head.
Smells of malt and chocolate.
Big taste of a dark chocolate powdered milk shake. Slight hop and dry finish. Dark chocolate sticks around. Hint of vanilla and very slight dark fruit.
Very smooth mouth feel and no alcohol.

Pours a scarlet-hued chestnut with a thumb of tan head. Nice head retention & pretty average head retention
S: Cocoa & chococlate
T: Follows the nose, powdery dryness as well up front, a touch of vanilla as well. More cocoa powder as this warms, a touch of iron, dryness & a little vanilla. finishes powdery dry with a little vanilla, & cocoa
MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation
A nice choclate beer, was expecting great from these guys, this is pretty good, perhaps a touch too dry to really placate me. If you like cocoa, this is your stout. I'm more of a dark chocolate guy

Appearance - The beer poured a murky black color with big tan bubbles crowning the glass.
Smell - Chocolate dominates the nose. It is dry, but pleasant.
Taste - My first impression is bubbly dry baker’s chocolate with an odd bit of fruity sweetness. I am made to think of what would happen it hot cocoa got really cold and carbonated. The profile is not as sweet as I imagined. More accurately, it’s a dry chocolate stout.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation seemed over aggressive with a body that was lacking.
Overall - I don’t feel like New Glarus went all in on this one, when they should have gone to 11.

Desert in a bottle. If I drank chocolate milk, this would wean me off of it.
Looks are not as good as the rest. Smells are all milk-chocolate. Tastes are too... and creamy and maybe even some caramel... just to complete the impact of sweet. The danger is milk stouts can get too sweet (particularly if you are like me and prefer the bitter-sweet.) Mouth feel is fine as long as this is the only sugar I get at the end of the meal.
To un-conceal my biases... This is my 22nd of New Glarus' 27 active beers. I've also had half of their retired beers. Not only do they have more ratings from me than any brewer, their lead on #2 is huge (it has 40% less ratings.) All this is to say, New Glarus is my favorite and, almost, can do no wrong on my buds. One of American brewing's great success stories. And now the employees own. Good for them and good for us.

Pours a ruddy brown color. Clear albeit dark when held to the light. Thick velvety khaki head slowly dissipates leaving a low hill of foam in the center of the beer. Beer appears thin, but in line for the English style.
Aroma has notes of milk chocolate, roasted malts, cocoa, a touch of cream, with a slight earthy nutty aroma peeping through. Overall a very nice aroma.
Taste has notes of roasted malts that are quickly washed over by notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, sweet cream, and some earthy malt notes. A hint of bittering hops are noted on the back end, but appropriate for the style. Slightly sweet as expected for the style.
Feel is light to medium bodied. Gentle carbonation. Smooth beer with a semi-dry finish.
Overall this is a lovely English sweet stout - true to the style with no gimmicks and excellently executed.

Craft beer fans and chocoholics unite! A beer to appease both crowds is here. Putting their thumbprint on a chocolate ale brings New Glarus Brewing to the edge of decadence.
Pouring a very dark brown, might as well say black, the beer's ivory cap begins to release a rich and robust scent of chocolate immediately. Densely packed with cocoa nibs, Thumbprint Chocolate Stout seduces the nose with milk chocolate, caramel, light coffee and a modest fruitiness of cherry and grape. Tasting lavishly malted, the taste of sweet cream and caramel meet up with the chocolate flavor to give the early palate a high celebration of classic milk chocolate.
The middle palate is largely a continuance of the palate sensations on the front of the tongue. Milk chocolate allows the caramel and light fruits to pull through in a nearly frappuccino way. Creaminess subsides as a mild hop bitterness allows the chocolate to trend slightly bittersweet heading onto the late palate. Hints of coffee come in late with a kahlua spice to give the session a grown-up feel.
Full in body but taking a reserved role, the beer doesn't sacrifice the drinkability of milk stout although the chocolate kicks the flavor spread deep into the dessert end of the meal. A medium long linger of cocoa and coffee bring along its caramelized malt for a taste that finishes much like it started.

Deliciously deep and chocolatey, the smell and taste are to die for if you're into sweeter beers. It's fresh, rich, and decadent; none of the flavor profile contains anything artificial or offensive. It tastes like a high quality milk chocolate bar but just sweet enough to be drinkable. It's hard to top New Glarus' dessert and fruit beers and this one is no exception.
