Very Good
Kid KolschKid Kolsch
Notes: You hold an enlightened throwback ale brewed in the Kölsch tradition of yesteryear. Beautiful floral Spalt Hops were chosen in the field by Brewmaster Dan Carey. Crisp bitterness dries quickly into a clean finish. Double decoction mashing of specifically blended German and Czech barley and wheat malts naturally create a golden bready center. Old world open top fermentation imparts lilting fruit notes to softly round out this 100% naturally carbonated live ale with a friendly bounce. Prost!

Pours a very light straw color. Completely clear and somewhat effervescent, albeit more so early on as the effervescence dies down. Thick three finger white head dissipates leaving a thin spotty layer of foam on top of the beer.

Aroma has nice airy notes of grains, somewhat sweet on the nose, with some light floral notes.

Taste follows the nose with light grainy notes, hints of golden baked bread, floral hops on the back end, with a slight bitterness that builds as the beer is consumed providing a pleasant slight bite. Not sweet in spite of a hint in that vein on the nose. crips dry finish.

Feel is light, crisp and super refreshing. semi-dry finish.

This is both a very nice kolsch as well as a supremely refreshing and drinkable beer. I hope NG ensures that this one does not go on as long of a hiatus as it has in the past.

pours clear yellow golden with big white head. Almost merengue like.
Smell is very muted - sweet grass.
Flavor is crushable. Sweet up front with a slight bit of malt. Maybe a touch of lemon. Finishes smooth. Carbonation level is high. Easy to drink
Super true to style. Good beer, but not the best Kolsch I've every had.

Pours a clear, gold with a big, white, fluffy head. The head really sticks around for a while.
A big, sweet, grainy and yeasty smell. Lots of lemongrass and German hop smell.
Sweet tasting kolsch. Quite refreshing. Sweet grain and malt bill. Sweet fruit. Nice German hops.

12oz bottle, New Glarus glass. Cloudy golden body, one and half finger white head. Has a bit of a lemon yellow quality to it. Fair bit of retention. Not much lacing. As far as kolsch body goes, it's fairly light colored and really looks more like a kellerbier. Smell is mild aromatic esters, crisp mineral, light biscuit, baked grain. Mild lemon and herbal hoppy bite. Flavour follows- so clean, full of flavor and delicious. It has a bit more of a substantial body to it, mild lemon zesty dryness, less of the herbal bite that the nose suggests. Overall, a crusher of a beer that needs to come around as often as possible in the summertime.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a tulip.

Pours a murky pale straw. Thick head recedes to a thick cap and spots nicely.

Aroma is fruity yeast with a substantial malt backing. Ghost of a hop presence on the nose.

Flavor is vinous and fruity. Hint of noble hop presence. Malt comes in the middle and then the beer dries down to a chardonnay, grape and apple, slight citrus. Finishes dry and quenchingly sour.

Mouthfeel is crisp and light with lively carbonation.

This is a Kolsch with some of the best I've had phenomenal!

Remembered this was supposed to be out as I was perusing the beer section of legendary Kenosha deli, Tenuta's. Sure enough, bountiful sixers were waiting.

Poured into my tall Becher ('cause I still don't have a Stange).

L -- Hazy pale yellow with a very dense, long-lasting white head.

S -- Light lemon to pear citrus with doughy malts and sulfur character (something I've heard is prominent in very fresh Kölsch), along with the "fresh" rendition of DMS.

T -- Same citrus notes up front with spicy hop flavor and light breadiness. The finish is hop bitterness without overwhelming the full flavor of the malts and light citrus. Aftertaste is more of the spicy and bitter hops with doughy malts in balance.

F -- Mouthfeel is very soft with a medium-light body. Lightly crisp to dry finish.

O -- A very nice rendition of the style -- double decocted and fermented openly, no less. Having never tasted Kölsch at the source, I have to wonder how close this is to the real thing; carries a good breadiness and that subtle touch of fruitiness that are notable hallmarks of the style.
