You hold a session beer with a bright bold blend of five hops that flirt obligingly with the smooth malty backside. Don't let this one lay around it is brewed to be enjoyed today. Bold and engaging without pretense, because in Wisconsin you do not have to be extreme to be real.

(12 oz bottle, no date/code; purchased single at the brewery last week... poured into a plastic cup)

from hazy recollections: yet another Midwest-region 'pale ale' that tastes like a hybrid or muddy mashup of an old school American craft ESB and an amber ale... this one has a dominant toasted caramel/granola accent to its malty, dry undercut foundation while some noble-quality earthy hopping provides some balance... this was boldly flavored and perhaps a bit understated when keeping the classic American Pale Ale hop regime in mind... it looked and drank quite clean, finished with an herbal, tea-like shimmer tailing the hefty pale malt in its finish... I feel like this was one, though I'm not suggesting this is complex and in need of studious attention, which would've benefitted more from a slightly more comtemplative, less distracted examination, as I feel with bigger sips and more contact with the palate (I was kind of short sipping this), I can get more around what this is all about, dig into the more easily passed nuances... or, this was another classic craft recipe of yore, ne'er fussed with, and what I got is what it got (2201)

Poured from a 12-oz bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Appearance: Honey gold, just a bit cloudy, with a huge white head that lingered long, leaving nice lacing.

Nose: Pine, with a bit of citrus.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium thickness, adequate carbonation.

Attack: Gentle, bread.

Finish: The hops come through providing a nice bitterness balance.

Overall: Not being a hop-head, I really like this ale: plenty of flavor, and not excessive bitterness. Nice job, New Glarus!

A super good tasting pale ale. A little citrus fruit, some juniper tasting hops, spicy, slightly sweet, absolutely perfect carbonation. Refreshing. Excellent. Luscious body and creamy smooth. One of my favorite Pale Ales ever. A near perfect beer. New Glarus can be hit or miss, but this delivers full satisfaction for lovers of Pale Ale.

12oz bottle. Etched at lower section of bottle is '022218075873A;.
Slightly cloudy, deep gold colored body. Two fingers of white head, recedes to partial cap and high ring. Leaves behind partial walls of lacing.
Aroma of sweetly toasted malt.
Taste is a presentation of malt (sweet and bready), floral and earthy hops (substantially grounding), and drying yeast.
Medium mouth feel, with a light syrup texture. Excellent carbonation.
Delivers a fully developed pale ale experience.

As a pale ale fan, I consider this the best beer I've had from New Glarus. Very drinkable and inoffensive.

Just a basic beer here too. After drinking Spotted Cow, I expected more flavor from this beer based on its high rating but just found a drinkable beer without enough hoppiness for me.
