2017 vintage; drank 7/16/17 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque red/purple appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.

A rough pour yielded a huge, noisy off-white/pink head; strong, frothy tree-rung lace.

Strawberry jam & honeyed wheat notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Strawberry jam & mildly bitter rhubarb flavors up front; a mildly tart finish. Honeyed wheat notes emerged as this warmed.

Balanced, fruity & delicious; I was blown away. I wish I had 20 more in the cellar....

Look is a deep and dark ruby red smoothie. 2 fingers of slight pink head that settles into a ring rather rapidly.

Aroma is as one can imagine strawberries and rhubarb.

Taste is huge strawberry jam up front and finishes with tart rhubarb and maybe even lemon.

Feel is incredible for the 4% abv. Feels super full and rich.

Overall a nice and refreshing fruit beer. My first fruit from New Glarus and while it's a tad sweet for my liking I can certainly understand them being known for their fruited beers.

A goblet of strawberry purée. A lacy dissipated head gives way to a persistent thin ring. Bursting ripe strawberry jam with a hint of oak and fruit leather. Jammy without being overtly sweet. The strawberry is the star but there is a hint of lemon tartness and the rhubarb adds some earth in the finish. Surprising full mouthfeel for the 4% ABV. Crisp and well carbonated. This is the type of fruit that all others should be measured.

Sweet, tart, crisp. New Glarus nails the strawberry rhubarb. Absolutely nails it. Tastes just like strawberry rhubarb pie without the crust. Equal parts sweet and tart without being too heavy on either end. The cloudy reddish pinkish pour with a flat head does nothing to draw you; the aroma does that with aplomb however. Aroma and taste is freshly picked strawberry and baked rhubarb. Jammy fruit and ripe berries abound. Absolutely mouth watering. The tart aftertaste tingles the palate and the corner of the mouth without being too lacto-forward or acidic. This is the beer's greatest strength - balance. Expertly crafted.

A: Honestly, not the most appealing beer. This thing is murky, a dark almost magenta color with just the tiniest layer of white head. Not a hint of light gets through the glass, and it looks even darker in my teku. To be fair, I recently made rødgrød med fløde, a Danish dish consisting largely of cooked down strawberries and rhubarb. It looked a lot better than this beer, so I know it's not just the fruit... But I won't dock it too much on appearance ;).

S: Tart berry and rhubarb is forward at first, but as this warms, it quickly becomes a strawberry aromatic bomb. Sweet strawberries and cream really come to the forefront on the nose with more background rhubarb tones. Smells like a decadent dessert.

T: ...And tastes like it too. As this warms, the strawberries really pop. It's like strawberry puree made from the best strawberries you've ever tasted. It's certainly sweet, but a moderate tartness lingers (though becomes less forward as the liquid warms) to prevent any cloying effect. The oak notes really come through on the finish, as does the rhubarb flavor, making for a more complex aftertaste of red berry, tannins, wood, and tart rhubarb. But boy is that initial berry note rich...

M: Really nice feel for an insane 4%. Perfectly dispersed, soft carbonation carries what is clearly a thick beer full of fruit along the palate. It's sweet and sticky, but some combination of the tartness of the fruit and the dryness of the barrel restrain that sweetness on the aftertaste. Still, it's that lick-the-stickiness-off-your-lips kinda beer. And again, for 4%, the amount of flavor and mouthfeel on this is unreal.

O: Pretty ridiculous beer. In fact, I'm not sure I'd even totally call this beer; I mean, it clearly is, but it's unlike anything I've had before, and may offend many who are looking for more typical "beery" flavors. The style listed is fruit/vegetable beer, and without knowing too much about what's considered "typical," I will say that the one thing this beer does extremely well is convey the character of the added fruit extremely well. Some may take issue with the dessertification of the fruits that this beer offers, but to me, it's delicious--if not totally appropriate for every situation. Don't drink this beer expecting a crisp, refreshing, sessionable fruity sour. Do drink this beer expecting rødgrød med fløde in beer form :).

Pours murky red. Pink, short, foamy head that lasts a while.

Smells strawberry, hint of oak and fermented fruit and light tartness.

Tastes like fresh, lightly fermented strawberries and a hint of rhubarb tartness. Finish is semi sweet with strawberry linger. Medium body and smooth medium carbonation.

Brick colored and opaque with a nice heads that settles.

Nose is straight up strawberries.

Taste is strawberries, sweetness, acid, and tartness. Maybe rhubard but who knows what rhubard taste like.

Mouthful is medium to light and crisp. Carbonation is above average. Finish is dry.

Super drinkable and very refreshing between the sweet and tart. The fruit is strong, the rhubarb not so much. Highly recommended.
