This has to be one of the coolest looking breweries I've ever been to. I wasn't sure if I was visiting a medieval castle sitting on top of a hill overlooking the valley, or if I was at the brewery. The actual building structure and lay out is just breathtaking and I would recommend this to anyone to check out that's in the area. The vibe was very touristy. Lots of visitors that I got the sense were more interested in the place itself as opposed to beer that it had to offer, which unfortunately wasn't as large as I had hoped. Only 5-6 beers were being offered. The service was nice and quick which made up for some of the shortcomings regarding beer selection. I'm also a bit surprised that such a nice place wouldn't serve food. But again, as a structure itself and the setting ... just beautiful.

Honestly I am not a huge fan of New Glarus beers. Not that they are bad. I just see people in Illinois clamoring over Spotted Cow and I just don't get it. Moon Man is a solid IPA. That being said, the brewery is very nice. Worth a visit just to sit in the beer garden, which is on a hill and kind of overlooks the town. Very enjoyable. However, not a huge selection of beers to choose from.

This new location that New Glarus has, is one of the best out there that I've had the pleasure of visiting thus far. My Girlfriend and I were spoiled and got a beautiful sunny day of the day of the Kentucky Derby. The vibe was awesome, the beer garden was busy to say the least. Derby fans all dressed in their finest, cyclists rode up on their bikes and were roaming around. Young, Old, Far and wide, this place attracts unlike any other.

Quality of the beer was very good and fresh as well as the location, brand new as good as it gets.

Service and Selection is where I ding this brewery a bit. The front desk and shop employees were fantastic, but each of the beer station employees were very cold, brash and downright unfriendly. Maybe they were busy or unprepared for how hot it was out, but that was the only diminishing part of our experience with the staff at New Glarus otherwise the rest of the staff were great. Down in the beer cellar after our tastings the young men down there were fantastically knowledgeable of their beer and very pleasant and helpful.

The selection of the beers on tap for tastings were as most have pointed out their mainline beers and not their signature or "thumb prints" as New Glarus calls them. If they added a few more on their tasting rotation that I think that would help them immensely. Their beer in the cellar is pricey especially as their Thumb Prints, it would have been helpful to have tried them upstairs.

Regardless, this new New Glarus Brewery is remarkable, it is hands down top 3 favorite breweries that I've had the pleasure of visiting and I will be going back.

Love this place. I have visited this brewery multiple times and they keep adding on. Last time I was there they were building an outdoor patio to enjoy their world class beers on.

Great service and atmosphere. You get a free glass and beer tasting with a Military ID. The gift shop had a good selection. I only was able to go on the self-guided tour (since the hard-hat tours are books years in advance it seems), which was disappointing and did not have much information. I was expecting at least plaques or something.

Since I drink mostly from my lists (and I'm always the designated driver), I rarely go to bars and doubt I will review many Places. But this is my first Place review and it has a special place in my heart as New Glarus may well be my favorite brewery (as hard as that is to have a favorite over time.)

As you may know, New Glarus distributes only in Wisconsin... yet manages to produce enough beer to fall barely within the Top 20 craft brewers. Obviously a dedicated following, of which I confess to be in the flock.

I won't duplicate a lot of the other reviews who give this Place a "99" rating.
But I will say that being there for the first time in their facility on the Hill in August 2015, I felt like I was in Sonoma County (albeit, Wisconsin is greener.)
This place is a true celebration of beer. (And it certainly helped that it was a warm summer day that encouraged refreshment.)
The Sonoma-like experience got rounded out with more than the temporary providers of pizza ovens. Rather it was the whole integration of beer with food for me that got empowered to the next level when in the store I found a book that many of you know: Garret Oliver's "The Brewmaster's Table: Discovering The Pleasures of Real Beer With Food." Now 10 years old, the book still is full of great pairings and have broadly expanded my appreciation of beer's roots and how it is growing as a part of culinary culture. He is a great writer, too. (By the way, does BA review books anywhere on this site?)

New Glarus is more than a brewery with a great view overlooking a valley. Try its beers whenever you can. And Wisconsin is good territory for those carrying on the tradition set by Michael Jackson of beer-hunting. New Glarus also recently received a small entrepreneur award from President Obama. But, I will leave you with the best story of all.

In the previous century, I toured their original brewery when it was in the valley. (Not understanding anything about plumbing, I learned that brewery tours are not edifying for me.) But I will tell Deb Carey's story of how she always wanted to start a brewery, but knew that its downfall was often that someone else hired away the brewmaster. Her solution seems to have worked splendidly, she says: "First I hired a great brewmaster and, then, I married him!"
Now, isn't marriage a blessed institution ?

Their new brewery is amazing but I wish they had more beers on tap. Maybe some more Thumbprints tapped for their guests. Overall great experience!
