Axemann Brewery "Summer Hefeweizen"
12 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$2.33 @ Wegmans, State College, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a hazy golden body with an orange sheen beneath a short head of white foam that's already dropped. The aroma is limited but offers sweetish malt with the expected banana and clove from Bavarian weizen yeast. The flavor is fuller and display some wheatiness within the malt as well as more of the expected banana and clove and a bit of apple. It's lightly acidic as well, and along with a moderate bitterness it's nicely balanced and finishes mainly dry. In the mouth it's light-medium in body and gently crisp. More carbonation is generally expected of the style but it works in this slightly lighter version. Ultimately this is a fairly good representation of the style that follows the weizen recipe guidelines and delivers a refreshing and quaffable beer.
