A - Pours a murky dark Copper colour with a thick White head that retains well.
S - Some smoke with pork crackling aromas
T - Well its a very balanced subdued smoke flavour. There is some malt and hop in there as well but its mainly a subdued smoke flavour.
M - Medium body and low carbonation.
O - Well this is an interesting beer. It tries to balance out the smoke but does not succeed. In which case you may as well just go for it and smoke it up like an Urbock !

-medium carbonation visible
S:
-light smoke,metallic,apples,pears
T:

I dont think pale malts lend itself well to smoke. In my opinion it hinders the subtle flavours to come through instead of enhancing the experience.

From the bottle, it pours well with a nice head. Good flavor. Award winning brewery in the depths of Franken! I enjoy the Weiherer products and grab them when I can.

Somewhat sweet but really good smoke flavour. Tons of toasty, bacon-y goodness. Looks good too.

.5L brown glass swingtop acquired at Hopfen und Malz in Berlin, Germany and served cold into a Berliner Kindle Weisse glass in me friend's gaff in Berlin. Reviewed live. Expectations are high; I generally really like rauchbiere. I'm looking forward to this one. 5.3% ABV per the label. BB: 26.10.14. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: One finger wide. White colour. Decent thickness and creaminess. No lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Retention is average - about 2 minutes.
BODY: Dark copper-gold of average vibrance. No yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible. Translucent. Transparent.
Overall, it's a decent looking rauchbier and I'm looking forward to the first sip, but it's far from unique or special. Appears adequately carbonated.
AROMA: Moderate smokiness. Meat, pork, wood smoke. No ash or harshness. Copper malts. Maybe there's oak?
There's no out-of-control sweetness, hop character, or yeast character. No alcohol or off-notes are detectable.
A pleasant aroma of moderate strength.
TASTE: Woody smoke is prominent - as it should be - with faint wisps of meat/pork. Copper malts. Not real sweet or hoppy. There's no yeast character. I don't find any alcohol or off-notes. Balanced and enjoyable. Pretty simple, but effective. Lacks intricacy, subtlety, and nuance.
Average depth, duration, and intensity of flavour. I like it.
TEXTURE: It's got a good balance of coarseness/smoothness and dryness/wetness, coaxing out the flavours well. It's not unrefreshing, but it is a rauchbier. That said, it avoids the usual pitfalls of smoked malts; there's no harshness or roughness here. Well-carbonated. Good overall presence on the palate. This texture complements the taste well, but its definitely too thin and lacks sufficient body and heft.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or scratchy.
OVERALL: This is a nice rauchbier which will please fans of the style. I'd get it again and would recommend it to friends. I'll easily kill the bottle. Definitely worth trying.

A: Golden colour! Expected a dark beer. Clear,
medium fading head, some lacing, didn’t look
overly lively.
S: Subtle smoke as opposed to a
smoke bomb.
T: Basically its a Helles with a hint
of smoked meat, has the malt and grassyness
associated with that particular beer style.
M: Low carbonation, light body, very smooth.
O: Really surprised by the light colour, enjoyable but
slightly below the Schlenkerla Helles.

Pale, slightly cloudy orange-straw colour, with a white, fluffy head of dissipating filmy bubbles. Looks pretty nice.
Great smoky characters on the nose. Wood smoke, bacon and a little pine-resin giving a woody note. Very nice. It's not huge and robust, but the characters are very good.
Taste, however, is surprisingly weak. A little burnt character, almost a little bit of charred rubber, then just an unpleasant coppery-sour note on the back. Mouthfeel is very flat. On the palate as a whole, it's a real shame.
Overall, it has some pleasant characters, but it's a pretty weak example of a rauch. As much as the initial characters are promising, it just falls flat, and ends up pretty bland.

Picked up a 0.5l swing-top bottle of this at a Rewe store last week in Bamberg. Cost me 0.79, plus 0.15 deposit (not to be redeemed!). No freshness dating found on the label.
Enjoyed today out in the 'Zebo. Poured into a standard nonic, it was a clear, medium golden hue, with sporadic, indifferent carbo lazily meandering topside. A bright, white head topped the brew; rocky but rapidly thinning, though with good lace. A fine rauch aroma hits the nostrils, almost Schlenkerla-like in its robustness. Mmmmm... Though the body was a bit less than medium, the liquid itself was still quite smooth on the tongue.
Bready malts and light sweetness were batting lead-off and #2... A solid rauch base come sin next. The smoke lingers quite well, not strong like Schlenkerla, but more than the subtle rauch of Spezial. Has some earthy, flowery hops making a late cameo, but this is a smoke show when all is said and done. A solid rauchbier, indeed!
Prosit!!

A- Pale amber with a moderate sized cream colored head.
A- Smoked meat aroma.
T- Dark malt flavor with a smokey flavor sitting in the background. Very clean tasting.
M- Medium body with moderate carbonation. Very easy going down.
D- I honestly expected a lot more smokiness. As it warmed the smoke came through a bit more. Very enjoyable and to style nonetheless.

This is a nice-looking brew: a beautiful clear copper-gold color with a white head and great lace. The smell has a very light smoke nose. The smoke is not quite as intense as I expected. (Think of it not as standing near a fire, but smelling the smoke on something that had recently been near the fire). There is a little lightly toasted malt underneath the smoke. Not bad. The taste is fairly dry, with a sharpness and starkly character (a little on the acidic side?). Not much in the way of hop notes. The smoke is still present in the taste, but far quieter than it is in the smell. The mouthfeel is very light and somewhat bright. Decently drinkable. Nothing special.

Pours a very pale amber brown with an uneven haze. Forms a small bone white head that doesn't die too quickly. Leaves some stringy lacing.
Initial aroma is of wood smoke with a surprising amount of sweetness. The smoked meat smells that are often associated with this style can be found but they're fairly subdued. Interesting though.
The flavor has even less smoke than the nose somehow. The malt sweetness is still here in the form of apples. Not as much going on here as I hoped. Aftertaste is interesting though, wood smoke and fruit combine for a faint applewood bbq taste.
Mouthfeel is a major weak point, so watery it's more the consistency of tea than beer. Fairly low ABV and unassuming nature of this beer makes it easy to drink but I don't think I'd reach for another bottle as I was getting bored by the end of the first one.
This is my first Rauchbier and while I found the smoke interesting there just wasn't enough. After reading some reviews of others beers in the style I think I chose poorly. I'll have to revisit this style again and make a more thoughtful selection.
