The use of a hundred pounds of fresh Centennial & Cascade hops make this a rare find on the east coast. A beautifully balanced red ale with medium body & lots of hop flavor.

On tap at the brewery. Pours hazy amber. Smells like citra and weeds.

Flavor starts with good hop brightness with big nodes of mango. This is soon brought off balance by weedy, fruity malt profile. Finishes sweet and smooth.

All parts of the beer are nice but they don't quite jive together.

22 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a slightly hazy copper orange color with some clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Juicy grapefruit, tangerine, citrus, grassy, herbal hops with toasted and caramel malts in the rear.

Taste: Hop flavor was more noticeable in the aroma than the taste.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, crisp, refreshing, light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, and mild tingly bitterness.

Overall: I'd like to think this beer more of an IPA than an amber/red ale. So tasty and hopefully I can find more next time through NH or wait till next fall.

Pours a cloudy chestnut with a finger of fluffy white foam. It settles leaving a nice cap with some soapy lace.

Citrus hops in the aroma. Mostly oranges with a hint of butterscotch and malts in the background. The flavor is more bitter than I would have thought. Bitter hops losing the citrus flavor with a caramel malt backbone. Finish with a little bit of an orange flavor.

The body is a bit heavy for the style. The flavors linger here and it coats the tongue. Overall I enjoy this one quite a bit. A real nice ipa that shows some good malts too.

Thanks to EnronCFO for the bottle!

Appears a hazy dark amber. Full tan head falls slowly to a mottled layer. Nice lacing. The smell is a blend of caramel malt and mild hops - with a citrus anchor. Taste is hops up front, a little spiceiness, then quickly into mellower malty center with some fruit. Follows with a slightly dry finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation with a fine structure. Overall a very drinkable ale - another solid brew from Portsmouth.

Thanks again to Ben for bringing the growlers!

Poured into a pint glass. Nice dark orange color. No head at all, just bubbles of lacing. There is a bit of haze here as well.

The smell is a little bit of orange zest. This is a decent smelling beer, but the aroma is not as strong as in the hop2.

The taste is only mildly astringent. There is a good amount of sweetness here that presents the hops as more "juicy." There is a nice clean finish here as well.

Good mouthfeel, not as carbonated as ideal but that is okay as it just makes the malt sweetness more prominent in my mind.

Very drinkable, as are all Portsmouth IPA's.

a: This was a dark, hazy copper color. It poured with a large, sticky and rocky head.

s: The hops are spicy and tea-like. I also found some malty toffee aromas. Odd combination, but it works pretty well.

t: I tasted the toffee and tea here and it was fine. It did smell a bit better though.

m: Gently carbonated with an overall heavy feeling.

d: Thanks as always to joepais for another Portsmouth offering. This was tasty, but it didn't quite come together for me.

Growler received in a trade with portia99 thanks!

Appearance: Pours a deep auburn with honey orange folds. The head is minimal and off white. It shows little retention and lace but a nice hop oil sheen remains like a film across the top of the glass!

Smell: Super dank hop oil over a bed of dark earthy malty goodness.

Taste: Wow this is a fantastic tasting brew. Loads of fresh cascade and centennial hops in a red style ale! Barely any bitterness despite the massive hop flavor!

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with just enough carbonation to get by but I would like some more carbonation!

Drinkability: I could and would love to drink this all day!

Bomber courtesy of GrittyMug345. Thanks man!

Pours a dark ruby/coppery color with deep dark burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a two finger foamy yellowish head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Spotty lacing.

Earthy floral hop aroma with some dank oily notes and subtle citrus as well as a prominent caramel malt scent. Slightly biscuity with a bit of toasted nut. I'm not sure how old the bottle is but it's not smelling as fresh and/or hoppy as I expecting.

Chewy resinous mouthfeel with some fresh earthy floral hops. Slightly creamy body with a slightly roasted caramel malt back bone that provides some nice balance. Hints of biscuit, toast and roasted nut. The malt presence is a little heavier than I prefer but the dry bitter hops still shine through. You can still taste how fresh the hops are and while they are most dominant up front, the pleasant dry bitter flavor lingers throughout into a slight dry finish. The ABV is very well masked without even the slightest alcohol warmth, making it very drinkable.
