Greetings beer lovers,
What is White Lightning you might ask? It has nothing to do with ever clear, corn liquor nor white lightning whiskey. It is, in fact, Matt's first recipe here at P-brew and is based on a Wit Bier recipe which includes both fresh sweet orange peel and Curacao bitter orange peel as well as some coriander with an amped up hop rate. It is also dry-hopped with Summit and New Zealand Motueka. It is quite tasty and big in the citrus hoppy finish. So Brian, how are you going to top this one??

Had on tap. Bright orange body with a finger of white foam. Citrus zest with light garden botanicals, herbal hops, and a touch of grainy yeast in both smell and taste. Nose is milder, bordering on bland. Medium bodied, decent hop bitters, not much behind besides malt backbone, good carb level.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.
Pours a murky orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and floral aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and floral flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty but the mouthfeel is a bit too flat for my liking.

Had on tap at Portsmouth, review from notes.
A: Pours a very nice golden/honey color, slightly hazy, with a small white head with little retention, eventually leaving a thin ring on top. Minimal lacing.
S: Nice aroma with some honey, sweet fruit, lots of orange rind, with plenty of coriander and almost a slight basil aroma as well.
T: More coriander on the flavor profile with tons of orange and orange peel. Lots of zest/rind with a little bit of wheat and grain.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly dry finish.
O: Very tasty, enjoyed this one a good bit. Was actually described to me by the waitress as a saison..but a white IPA makes more sense.

I stopped by the brewpub yesterday (27MAY12) for lunch with daughter Caitlin. Started off with an imperial pint of this new offering ($5.75).
Glass was filled with a deep golden brew, which was a touch hazy. Steady carbo was rising, and the head was off-white, thin and fine, with decent lace left behind. The nose was a bit mild, mostly giving off rindy hops, though with a hint of spiciness. Body was medium, and the feel was decent, with a little airiness on the tongue.
Lots of pithy, rindy hops hit the palate right off. It is crisp and wheaty-dry, with some spice evident on the palate. Back to the hops - though quite citrussy and bitter, there is a touch of an herbal, minty aspect here. Pretty solid, all-in-all. Prosit!!
