Pours golden hazy yellow with fading white cap that sticks to side of tulip glass on draught. Notes of pine, pineapple and citrus with a touch of honey and bag of hop-it-ty hops make this a really nice micro local DIPA from Paperback brewery in Glendale. Cheers!

Pours a hazy golden orange with two plus fingers of rocky head that slowly settles to a thin cap with some lacing. Aroma of citrus, mostly orange. Taste follows nose with nice bitterness. Very enjoyable.

Ok IPA. Doesn’t really stand out in any particular way. Not particularly hazy. Moderate bitterness with some pineapple and mango bitterness. Medium mouthfeel.

Not very hazy, and the amber brew is capped with fluffy foam in the Chimay chalice. Aroma of citrus. Rather sweet, like candied lemon as another reviewer mentioned. Serious orange finish. Sweet, bitter, and citrus, and not as good as that sounds.

Overall this is a more drinkable example of the New England murky style, maybe because it's not so murky. But overly sharp and sugary. And bitter. did I mention the endless bitter aftertaste? From the 16 oz can purchased at Trader Joes. Six numbers stamped on the bottom but not a recognizable date.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $4.25
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa, Calif.
Purchased: June 8, 2021
Consumed: June 9, 2021
Misc.: No canned on date

Had Rachel pick me up this at Trader Joe’s. Had never heard of Paperback Brewing Company, but it was out of Glendale. Not a lot of descriptions I could find except for double hazy IPA double dry-hopped with Idaho 7 and Mosaic.

Poured a medium yellow semi-hazy color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky white head. Just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled both Idaho 7 and Mosaic right away. Also candied lemon, herbal, pine, floral, tea, raspberry, stone fruit, guava and mango. Just as good from the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was about as good. Idaho 7 jumped out first, but Mosaic was right there. Also candied lemon, herbal, pine, floral, raspberry iced tea, stone fruit, mango and guava. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Dry finish. (Feel - 3.75)

A lot better than I thought it would be. Underrated this. Would have this again for sure. Very good. (Overall - 4.00)

canned date of 10/8/21. Consumed 11/7/21 after buying it off of a room temp shelf as a single. Tall tulip glass used for the review.
Pours gold with voluminous white head that initially settles to a finger high stack of fairly stiff meringue, and later decreasing to a fluffy island with a ring of thin foam. Hazy gold, but not opaque. Leaves a reasonable amount of lacing.
Smell is true to the Idaho 7+Mosaic hops, as is the taste. Lots of hop bitterness, but not excessively so. I'm not so sure I would have concluded this was double dry hopped if the can did not say so, but the hops, especially the Mosaic do dominate. Tropical fruity but not a fruit bomb. Mild carbonation, medium to heavy body that coats the mouth.
I believe this clocked in at over $14 for 4x16oz. Not a bad beer but I think I have enjoyed other hazys at least as much or more for less $/oz, so I am not giving the overall rating higher than 4.0. Buy this beer if you are looking for a classic hazy appearance with flavor profile that showcases the specific hops. Don't buy it if you are looking for something that pushes the boundaries of the somewhat generic fruity/hazy beer. This is a good example of what it is described as, but nothing really out of the ordinary with regard to taste or drinking experience.

16 oz can. No date.
Fluffy white cap pushes more than 2 fingers high. hazy straw to subdued orange in hue. Good retention. Pretty nice layered lacing.
Nose pumps grass and then citrus notes go orange and lemon zest. A smooth grain note is also detected, but tamed by a slightly herbal onion note. As it sits, notes of pineapple and mango come through as well. This all works well together.
Flavor is mostly following the grass, citrus and grain from the nose.
Mouthfeel is medium, decent carb, and a very light prickly finish. Lively.
Overall, pretty solid.
