From a 473ml can, dated 08/23/18 (I think). Served in a spiegelau-style IPA glass.

Pours a moderately hazy, dull orange-gold with two fingers of plush, creamy head. Retention is excellent leaving a solid shaving cream-like cap and a few spots of lacing.

A fairly faint but pleasant, candy-like nose of sweet and tart citrus.

Tastes of grapefruit, lime and pineapple riding a heavy wave of overripe composty cantaloupe. Raw, harsh and grainy with alcohol fumes in the sinuses.

Feel is a little slippery, medium-light bodied and adequately carbonated with a big boozy burn in the gullet.

I had initially poured about 4/5 of the can into my glass and that is what the above notes are based on. When I topped-off with the remainder of the can, it oozed out like sludge, like pineapple juice concentrate or something, and plopped into the glass like fruitivoric diarrhea. In the interests of science, I drank it anyway because, science, right? Interestingly, this improved the beer immeasurably. I had heard about cans that had ought to be rolled before opening but I've never knowingly met one before. Apparently this was one such. So, I've bumped up my score for taste by a full 1.0 to a respectable 4.25 without revising my tasting notes. It probably would have boosted the other metrics a bit, too, if I'd had enough left in my glass to judge properly.

Can: Poured a hazy bright yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some excellent lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops notes with light mango and tropical fruit notes is quite enticing. Taste is a mix of citrusy hops notes with some mango and other tropical fruit notes with some distinguishable residual sugar notes with nice floral undertones. Body is full with good carbonation. Excellent double IPA that hopefully will see the light of day as a regular offering. My only complaint is maybe there is a tad too much residual sugar notes.

A:
Pours a cloudy yellow-orange with a couple fingers of off-white head that settles to a far film. Ok retention; some isolated swoops of lacing. (4)

S:
Strong citrus spice aroma. Orange Dum-Dums, pink Starbursts, potpourri, ginger, pine. (4.25)

T:
Rich citrus flavor. Orange sherbert, lime zest, snickerdoodles. (4.25)

M:
Medium bodied, kind of creamy-feeling, lingering sweetish hop finish. (4.25)

O:
This is an excellent IIPA of the juicy persuasion.
It is fairly par-for-the-course-looking. Both the aroma and flavor being citrus candy and spices to mind. It basically tastes and smells like an orange creamsicle that got dropped on the forest floor. A little bitterness to off-set it with a nice creamy feel and well-hidden alcohol. This is a very solid beer that I hope is going to be a little more available soon. A solid, enjoyable NENEIPA. (4.25)

Appearance - This beer poured out an absolutely stone cloud golden orange color, it looks exactly like bubbly orange juice in the glass and considering its a double NEIPA that is exactly how it should be. The head was half a finger and it faded leaving a film. I did take a partial point here because I felt as if the head should be a bit bigger. All the same this is a very good looking beer.

Aroma - Ok , let me tell you guys something, This has to be one of the sweetest noses I may have ever inhaled from a beer. That is saying something becasuse I've tried a good few low alcohol NE Juicy Monsters. Up front in the nose I get sweet peach, Pineapple, Watermelon, mango, orange or tangerine, Passion fruit a slight touch of strawberry and an extremely light cracker malt giving it some backbone but this is a JUICE BOMB on the nose let me tell you. Noses have caught me off guard before though so we will see.

Taste - OK, Now the flavor profile changes things up again but definitely not in one of the ways I was expecting. on the tip of the tongue there is a lemonade type flavor along with orange, with a much lighter sweetness from peach and pineapple. towards the back of the tongue and mouth you pick up a much more bitter side than you would expect, this is grapefruit a hint of orange rind and the cracker malt is much more noticeable in the back of the mouth.

Feel - That said this is a very smooth crushable beer. The bitterness and sweetness along with a hint of sour really mesh well together and balance each other almost perfectly. The mouthfeel is thicker side of medium bodied giving this the feeling of a juice and carbonation provides a nice interesting tingle, but does not take away from the smoothness this beer feels going down.

Overall - I gave this beer an overall score of 4.25 simply because I can't do inbetween ratings or it would be near a 4.4-4.45. This beer is the definition of JUICE BOMB, it is sweet and tropical and juicy even though the flavor has a distinct bitterness. that balances the sweetness. What is scary about this beer is the fact that its an 8% that drinks like a 4.5%. The funny thing is if you know Brasseurs Du Nord you know that they are known for 2 things. The really run of the mill almost macro like grocery store line up and the limited/rotations that kill it and this is one of those. Get your hands on it if you can. 4.4/5

Wow. Awesome. I just came in from a nice 30km cycling ride on a perfect 30 degree celsius day and popped a can of this baby. Talk about capping it with this beer. The first thing that hits is the citrus (including some pineapple notes) aroma. So sweet and pleasant! Pours a cloudy, bold straw yellow color with thick had that keeps its form. Solid lacing as well. Citrus taste with light bitterness with a honey, smooth finish.

Really liked this one. Felicitation la gang chez Boreale!
