A brown beer with an initial 1 inch head, which settles into a small layer.

Smell of candisugar and a nice Belgian fruity yeast profile. Hints of malt and caramel. Some esters.

Taste is a little rough at first, it seems that there are higher alcohols, which I get used to. Hints of caramelmalt and candisugar are the main taste components. The bitterness is low, but is supported by a little malt bitterness. The yeast is fruity and delivers a subtle higher alcohol content. Mouthfeel is on the thin side, but this contributes to it's drinkability.

Beautiful dense and long lasting foamy head. Impressive very dark purple color body. The smell is of red fruits with sweet strawberries and hints of wine and caramel. Strawberries and grapes in the taste, with some cherries. The iodated carbonation slightly bites the tongue. Winy. Thick grassy herbal hops. Chewy, almost chestnuty in their thickness. I probably couldn't drink too many of these in the same session, but I wouldn't mind having another one one day.

BB may 2006. God and lasting head leaving laces and a dark brown beercolor and very bright for an unfiltered one. Nose is very fine and delicate giving good carramellic maltyness and dark candy. Litle oaky note and some pepper. Taste is also good being dry but still carramellic sweet. Quiet bitter also making this one very enjoyable. Good and balanced mouthfeel and a pleasure to drink IMO.

Recommended by Shady at the Waterhuis in Ghent, thanks.
Appearance was chestnut brown with a medium tan head and slight lacing.
Smell was of freshly cut hay and light spice.
Taste was hoppier than most browns, a good balance of bitter and sweet.
Very good choice, quite enjoyable and unique.

The label of this beer featured a viking guy drinking out of a horn, which--combined with the name--reminded me of Asterix and Obelisk.

Color of the body was dark purple and 2cm. of highly creamy head, the rest dead in the glass, no movement. Smell made me think of Rogue's Amber ale, with red fruits, cloves, cinnamon and smoke coming to mind. A Belgian amber ale??

Taste is overall small and sweet, of maraschino cherries. Notes of gingerbread cookies and vanilla, and spots of pistachio nuts. A winey aftertaste. Hops developed as it warmed. Medium to heavy body.
