Church Brew Works : Nicholas Coffee Stout
Look: Dark brown with an off white, dense foam. Leaves plenty of lace, has good clarity and retention.
Smell: Meaty whiff of smoke and roasted malts. Chocolate and coffee are on the outskirts of aroma town.
Taste: Bitter coffee, citrusy hops, light smokey, roasted malts. Pretty light in the flavor department, this cannot have a whole lot of alcohol. Watery black coffee.
Feel: Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation. Leaves an aftertaste of coffee and faint cocoa.
Overall: A ho-hum, rather plain offering that doesn't really deliver much on the promise of being a gourmet coffee beer. Could have helped to add some lactose sugar and vanilla to this one. Ok brew.

Nicholas Coffee Stout
Appropriate coffee dark brown with a thin beige head. Not much lacing.
Black coffee in a spent grounds kind of way. Earthy hops make a quick appearance and rush off when roasted malts and more coffee comes in. Coffee-forward, but in a good way.
Overly bitter coffee, char, light smoke, earthy hops, grass, and a funk not unlike compost. I wish the coffee was better quality, and not like gas station coffee. There's a slight vegetal taste in there, too. Cooked greens or spinach, maybe. Minerally.
Nice carbonation, but the body is thin and a little watery. Needs more beef.
It's nice to see a local coffeeshop get the nod, but this could've been a lot better.
