Pours a murky orange-amber with a thin off-white head that leaves a thick crown and long-lasting wisp across the top of a wide-mouthed snifter.

The first thing I get off the nose is eclairs: both a hint of vanilla custard and a bready, pastry thing. There's also fig, orange peel and a touch of booze.

The taste is more straight-up brown bread. There's a ghost of the vanilla custard, some banana, some cloves. A touch of medicinal alcohol and stale hops. Pretty clean, dry finish. A little pepper in the aftertaste.

In these days of imperial stouts, it feels a bit thin to me, but it's definitely got a little heft and creaminess to it. A decade ago probably would have felt very full bodied.

This is a great, easy-drinking Christmas beer. Not overly heavy, sweet or spiced. Despite the little kisses of alcohol, the 12% abv doesn't really show either. A pleasure!

This is normally called Bush de Noel... only called Scaldis in the states.
Looks dark Amber
Smells like citrus fruits and some spices
Taste is also citrusy balanced out by a heavy wash of bitters. I'm getting a lingering taste of spices as well.
Mouthfeel is crisp and bubbly, well carbonated.
Overall I'm impressed at the heavy alcohol -12%- and how well it hides. This is not really a traditional Christmas ale.... I taste no cinnamon like so many Christmas ales have...plus it's a red Amber ale. Served in an 11 oz bottle.

The beer pours an almost clear mahogany, with a very large head. The aroma features brown sugar, fig, cherry, raisin, plum, caramel, banana and clove. The flavor has lots of raisin and fig, with bubblegum, clove, booze, and chocolate. The mouthfeel is rich and full, but not sticky, with foamy carbonation. Overall this is an enormously flavorful beer with rich fruit and spice, a perfect Christmas Ale, with a solid core of booziness that I really enjoy.

Pours a clear burgundy color. Thin off white head dissipates leaving a small circle of tan foam in the center of the beer. No lacing is left behind. Beer appears thin to the eye.

Smell has notes of bread, red wine, dark fruits, prunes, raisin and caramel with a sweetness on the nose makes it reminiscent of fruitcake. Touch of alcohol is also noted.

Taste follows the nose with notes of red wine, dark fruits - prunes, plums, raisins - with caramel and some bready malts. There is a hint of alcohol - but its more of a warming sensation more than a distinct stand out flavor. Some spices - clove, pepper, and christmas spices come through.

Feel is a tad on the thin side, but that keeps it light even with the higher abv. The sweetness does provide some body. Medium carbonation. alcoholic warming sensation builds as you drink the beer. Dry finish on the back end.

Overall a lovely beer. So well done and flavorful. Perfect for a cold winter evening. A word of advice - drink this beer at room temperature, its so much better that way. The aromas and flavor really pop once it warms up.

This is, I think, the third time I have had this beer. I am still learning the subtleties of flavors in Belgium's, but I get that there is a lot going on in this beer. I look forward to seeing how it ages.
