Muddy copper-brown with minimal to no head, excepting a fuzzy, dark tan ring.

Smell is caramel, oak, amaretto, raisin and...actually, it reminds me a lot of a fine Madeira.

Taste is really warm and deep, exhibiting caramel, raisin, plum, graham, and some mixed spices.

Medium to full bodied, this has a nice beery froth and a semi-dry finish, but is a bit hot.

2013 Vintage. 750ml into a tulip at cellar temp.

Look: ruby/orange-brown, with a nice long-lasting tan head.

Smell: berries, plum, lime, nutmeg, red wine. Predominantly sweet-smelling.

Taste: initial flavor is much darker/richer than I'd expected based on the aroma. Still lots of fruit, but also strong notes of fudge, porto, pumpkin bread. Sweet, but also with savory and bitter aspects. Fairly complex, though the alcohol isn't particularly well masked.

Feel: medium bodied with fairly high carbonation. Easy to drink, and despite the alcohol presence in the flavor, essentially no burn. Still, doesn't match the feel of, say, St. Bernardus abt 12.

Overall: good, not great. Some beers are complex but coherent, whereas this one comes off as somewhat muddled. Certainly not worth what I paid for it, but I'm nonetheless glad to have gotten to try it. If the alcohol were a bit less assertive, this could be a great beer. Made for a good birthday treat either way.

Vintage 2013. Pours a light brown color with no head, it looks very similar to a quad. It smells like a quad too, with dark candied aromas and slightly hot. The first sip was ok, the finish was very pleasant. The second sip however solidified everything and Nirvana is reached. I kept pouring more and more after my glass was emptied. It took hold of me and I was awestruck by this beer. Absolutely stunning. And at the end of the bottle, my final opinion was that it was very similar, except better than Westvleteren XII.

Served from 2012 Vintage 750ml C&C Bottle.

A — Pours a deep and dark red color, very red indeed. Puffy off-white colored head fades rather quickly, most likely due to the acidity in the beer.

S — Super funky and acidic, lots of vinegar and oak. Little bit of a heather honey sweetness and floral undertone.

T — Acidic again, lots of tart pie cherries and a super oaky undertone, quite acidic and sour, lots of vinegar.

M — Medium bodied, lingering finish and aftertaste.

O — OK overall, super funky and acidic, seems to be lacking balance, unfortunately.

750mL bottle into a wine glass
Cuvée 2012

A: Mahogany colored, slightly hazy, 1/2 finger light tan head, dissipates quickly, essentially zero lacing. 4

S: Friuty esters, vinous notes, oak, booze. 4

T: Dark fruit, lots of oaky characters, heavy vinous notes, fair amount of booze. 4.25

M/D: Full bodied, carbonation on the higher end but appropriate, ABV is def noticeable but it's not hot, drinkability is good. 4.25

O: Very good beer. Purchased for me by my girlfriend, but apparently it was $45 which is ridiculous. Very much enjoyed though. 4.25

Lots of wine notes present due to the wine barrel aging. Not being a wine drinker, this is a little off-putting at first, but it gets better the more you savor the complexities fo this brew.Pours reddish/amber with thin off white head. Lots of active, fine carbonation. Sour, oak, apple cider are tastes that come to mind. This is a great beer, but takes some understanding of the styles and processes to appreciate.

Look: Dark copper (orange with flashes of brown). Very cloudy; opaque. Tons of medium bubbles from the carbonation. Pours with a huge 3 finger beige head that dies down slowly ultimately leaving almost no trace.

Smell: Mild sour aroma, oranges, mild spices. Fragrant.

Taste: Tastes similar to how it smells - only richer and better. Delicious full flavor. Oranges, mild spices (think cinnamon), sweet-sour combination. Refreshing, thirst-quenching finish.

Feel: Medium velvety body. Tingly mild carbonation. Rich, full sensation. Perfect.

Overall: I really liked this beer. It has a beer-wine quality to it. Something to drink slowly and savor. Delicious. That being said, I cannot say that it is a good value. I have had several other great beers that I have enjoyed equally as well for far less money. A special occasion beer in my opinion.
