A: opaque; very dark brown - almost black; less than a 1 finger tan head that receded quickly to a thin collar; OK lacing;
S: grapefruit;
T: some roast along with honey/alcohol sweetness; alcohol is noticeable from the middle through the finish; the alcohol sweetness balances out the bitterness;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish; hides the ABV fairly well;
O: would have liked more bitterness; the hops didn't come through as clearly as I hoped;

DATE: February 6, 2021... OCCASION: beer six of the fest, splitting them with Jer, and enjoying the experience... GLASSWARE: plastic taster... jet black dark body supports a two-finger, ochre head that grounds to a creamy, cratered, bubbly smear of ominous haze... brilliant citrus--grapefruit, stone fruit, boozy lemon (if that is a thing), and resin...huge spruce presence with a roasted malt backbone that balances the top-heavy hops...medium-bodied, toasty, coating the teeth...lasting draw, strong and fulfilling... pine for days, with grapefruit, lilac and explosive lemon.... love these guys' personalities--a great duo to finish the show with...if C&H ships to this coast, I will be in line for their product...

Dark body with a modest tan head. Aroma-smells like an IPA: hops, pine resin. Fairly bitter with a touch of sweet. Very nice flavor: hops, tropical fruit, nutty flavors. Medium viscosity with good carbonation. I liked it!

The bitterness kind of slaps me across the face but the aroma and color are both beautiful. Not my pint of beer, but well done. The bitterness is expected from an IPA, and this in a well-executed IPA.

Not nearly as aggressive as I was expecting, but very tasty nonetheless. There were nice citrus and slightly tropical fruity notes, a mellow roast character, and a touch of hotness from the booze. Very very good.

Can from Half-time/BA for EBF 2021z pours black with a finger of rocky light tan head, nice lacing, smell is grassy dank hops, orange peel/zest, milk chocolate, hints of roasted dark malts, and horse blanket/dark malt husk funk, taste is bitter vegetal grapefruit zest, that transitions into dank pine, and finishes with bitter dark roast malt character, hints of dark chocolate covered coconut, coffee, burnt wood, and some barnyard funk, feel is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finish if fairly dry. I have not had a black IPA in a minute but this one is a boisterously brash and complex melange of dark malts, dank hops, and some roasty funk, a great example of pushing beer to the outer limits.

Smoky black body with a mocha colored head and thick lacing. Smell really does capture the best of both worlds with the citrus, resin, onion, and pine west coast hops and robust roast, char, malt, and earthiness of the black ale. Taste follows suit, but add in complexities of toast, melon, papaya, toffee, earthy hops, smoke and a touch of molasses. Complex and captivating. Feel has good roast and smoke to stand up against the hop bitters and resin, starts wet and finishes dry. Best black ipa I have had in years easily

This beautiful beer pours a dark cola brown with a dense tan head that provides substantial lacing. The first note on the nose is juicy, tropical citrus aromas, followed immediately by a molasses malt note. Wow.
The taste has juicy citrus flavors up front, primarily tangerines to my palate, but it’s that molasses flavor that makes this beer for me, along with a smidge of char. The flavors complement each other to the extent that there is no - as in zero - alcohol present in this 10% ABV TIPA. That illustrates the prowess of these breweries.
The mouthfeel is strikingly dry, per the WCTIPA style noted on the can. What a delicious, adventurous flavor ride this beer is.
