On-tap at Cafe Abseits in Bamberg, Germany and highly recommended by the proprieter Herr Schoolmann. Menu states that this is a 70 ibu beer brewed with Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy, Pacific and Mouteka hops. Served in a tulip. Pours a honey-ambered hue with a dense, 1.5 inch, cream-colored head. Nose expresses light fruity esters, somewhat reminiscent of a maibock, but more delicate with a light, candied fruit quality. Taste consistent with nose with some pleasant caramel/toffee notes which are sweet but not cloying and finishes with a pleasant earthy bitterness and candied fruit (perhaps melon) character. Mouthfeel is medium-light in body (but closer to light) with a crisp, even carbonation and a kiss of oiliness to the texture. Overall, wonderfully complex and fruity on a pale malt backbone - some sweetness without being cloying. I'm sorry I won't see this beer again, but at least I had several drafts before leaving Bamberg.
