This pours a dark amber color with a thick, carbonated head. The aroma is very malty and yeasty. The taste is full, yeasty, with lots of bready tones. Quite boozy and filling for a doppelbock. A rather interesting find.

I tasted this in August 2013 - the "Best by" date was 28.02.14 (Thanks bro'). The appearence (when poured) was a nice dark ruby colour with a white head that lasted fairly well. Smell was subdued - mostly metallic and caramel. The taste was immediately of molasses and treacle, but in a good way! It was balance by the hop character enough to make it an enjoyable brew. It was also much lighter and drier than I had first thought and in truth, I had not checked the label in advance for the ABV%. I was surprised to find out that it was 8.0! I liked it.

The colour is deep brown with a tint of red, the liquid is clear. The finger thick head slowly sinks down to a thin lid, leaving no lacing.
The smell is sweet and malty with lots of caramel. Hins of raisin and oak barrels. Dried fruits and some alcohol. No noticeable hops or bitter flavours. It is very malty, almost heavy. Some cellar notes and a touch of rubber, though.
The taste is lighter than the smell implies. The caramelised malts dominates as they should, but there is also a mild grassy bitterness that creates a fine balance. Fruit candy, caramel (but no toffee). Hints of oranges and apricots. The aftertaste got a fine clean bitterness and more of that sweet malty caramel flavours. The finish is surprisingly dry with notes of alcohol, semi-roasted malts and dried fruits.
The carbonation is medium strong, the small bubbles are many and smooth. The liquid is quite light for an 8 % doppelbock, but it suits the beer well.
An OK beer. Not the most complex one, though, rather a clean and fresh interpretation of the style.

The beer is deep amber has a firm warm off-white head that leaves good lacing and medium curtains.
Smelling sweet syrup, cloud-berries, egg, hay.
Taste off sweet loaf of bread, toffee, mango, orange peel.
Medium carbonation, small foamy bubbles, oily and sticky, a smooth dry finish.
A surprsingly hoppy bock, almost too sharp.

A: Pour is copper with a rather large off-white creamy compact head that slowly sinks into decent lacings.
S: Rich dark malt, somewhat sweet. Some bitter hops are hidden in the back. Some dark dried fruits, mainly plums.
T: Rich sweet dark full malt. Dark dried fruits, and even some milk chocolate. Smooth and creamy.
M: Body is thick and creamy, carbonation mild while aftertaste is medium-short and sweet, almost like molasses.
O: A nice beer, but far from the best Doppelbocks.

50cl bottle poured into seidel
BBE 12 Oct 2011
A- Medium brown body with ruby highlights. Clarity is excellent. Head is 3 finger tan and creamy. Reduces very quickly to minimal crown with no lacing
S- Sultaina cake, treacle, toffee
T- Sweeter malt qualities (toffee, sultana cake again) come through first which are balanced with a toastier malt, enough to a point without giving a medicinal cough syrup type bitterness that i have tasted in previous doppelbocks (augustiner maximator). Very smooth, no hint of alcohol heat.
M- Medium/full body, lager clean finish, moderate carbonation
D- Delicious aroma and flavour profile. Mouthfeel is satisfying and retains the lager cleanliness. So smooth, i had no idea it was 8% until looking at the bottle. Great stuff.
