A - Deep amber and clear with a slight brownish tint. The head is about half a finger of creamy white foam. Looks pretty much like an O-Fest should, but the head is a little wimpy despite the decent amount of spotty lace.

S - Nutty, woody, and lightly fruity. This has a bit of a grape hard candy note to it, but besides that it's far less malty and sweet smelling than most. It smells more dark and austere than most Oktoberfests. There is a bit of a cheddar cheese note that is interesting, and not at all out of place.

T - Big time mineral and metallic notes combine with a watery cereal grain funk (like tap water on unheated oatmeal), to make this a less than spectacular brew. Nutty and vegetal notes are there too.

M - Soft, watey, and really dry. This beer is like triple ply quilted toilet paper... soft and pillowy. Smooth, airy, and silken. This is so airy and delicate that it's almost like it's not in your mouth at all... sort of like whipped cream from an air can or something.

D - Not good. This is off base for the style, and it's just a sub-par brew in every way. It's too watery, and I hate the mineral/metallic well water notes ... although some people are into that.

Obviously it isnt )-fest/Marzen season but I like to find some German beers of the style anytime of year.Poured into a .5 liter stein a clear light bronze color with a 1/2 finger white head that has decent lasting power.Aromas of toasted grain and caramel malt stand out most with hint of iron.Not overly complex on the palate but the flavors are nice,toasty with some butter/caramel its obviously malt driven to be expected,its easy going down.Again not really complex but its very drinkable.

This is a fine Marzen style beer although almost a tad over the line into a bockish flavor. Poured from the 25 oz flippy, it's nice looking in the glass; a cloudy amber capped with a soon diminished frothy head. Deep malty smells wafted up from the pilsner glass, slightly caramel in nature. Big malty flavor with some real sweetness although there is a decent hop backbone giving this beer great balance for all the flavor. The finish is real good. A very nice beer!

Appearance: minimal head, light orange in color, clear, moderate carbonation

Smell: toasted malt and bread

Taste: honey and toasted malt

Mouthfeel: slightly sweet, moderate carbonation, light bodied

Drinkability: An above average marzen that is not overly complex. True to style. If I wanted a marzen I would consider this one, but would not go out of my way for it otherwise.

L: Pours dark amber to light brown with a slight chill haze under a 1” light tan cap that grips the glass leaving splotches of lace.
S: Dark malt aromas, light bread and grains.
T: Has a clean palate with a rich malt profile and some darker malt or kettle sugar character.
F: clean and smooth. Medium body and medium low carbonation.
O: A little more dark malt character than I expected but very easy to drink.

Bottle purchased from Green's on Ponce in Atlanta.

Pours a clear orange-amber color with a one-finger light tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of bready and slightly sweet caramel malts with just a hint of earthy hops.

Tastes almost exactly how it smells - caramel malt flavors up front soon gain a bit of body and breadiness that carries through to a slightly sweet and rather crisp ending. As with the smell a light hint of earthy hops enters into things midway through the sip but doesn't manage to do much more than make an appearance.

Mouthfeel is good. It has a nice thickness with solid carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished the bottle quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall I was very impressed with this beer and while the flavors didn't pop as much as others there was the perfect amount of everything present here. Definitely worth a shot.

Pours a surprisingly dark brown color with a slight orange tint with a thin, off-white head. Very murky body with fine sediment and light carbonation.

Clean but thick malty caramel. Fresh bread with light toffee notes and even lighter citrus notes.

The phrase "liquid bread" has never rung truer than it does with this beer. Rich caramel and a heavy nuttiness dominate the sweet flavor profile but with an unfinished quality... It reminds me of a sample of wort, fresh off the stove and ready for fermentation to begin. Malt seems a bit burnt. An earthy bitterness hits at the end.

The thick body will slow your sipping as this is one heavy beer. It's very filling! Carbonation is nearly impossible to detect. Sweet, sweet finish.

A fantastic example of the style. This is a meal in a glass, so prepare to sip it slow. I highly recommend this one to anyone who likes their beer malty and a bit on the sweet side.

On-tap at the Farmhouse. Served in a standard pint glass, it appears a clear amber-orange with a short white head.

Wow this beer is fresh. Right off the bat, it's an expertly balanced, and seemingly flawless Oktoberfest. The aroma and flavor a filled with a seemingly simple bready and light caramel malt profile that's countered by a subtle hop note. I imagine this is what O-fest's from the big German brewers, especially Spaten, would taste like if they fresh and untainted by travel. Overall, this beer is incredibly drinkable and it's a shame this beer isn't everywhere.

Pours a murky, but effervescent amber/brown with a finger of tan head. Opened with a slight whoosh. Some lacing & head retention

S: Orchard fruit, spicy hops

T: Pears & figs up front, some brown bread & some woody hops. More of the same as this warms. Fruittyness & leafy hops, as this warms. Finishes dry with pears, figs & woody hops

MF: Light bodied, fairly soft carbonation

This beer seems a bit tired, nothing special here

Orangish amber color with one finger of head that settled to a thin cap. Moderate amount of lacing is left on the glass. Smells pretty good with a nice balance of caramel, biscuit malt, and Noble hops with earthy, and herbal elements. The flavor follows the aroma. The hops are not as prominent but still balances the sweeter malt. I think this is a beer that needs to be enjoyed fresh because without those hops, this would be a boring beer as the malt is not that complex. The beer needs a little more life in the carbonation department. The body seems on par for the style. Would be an easy beer to drink in the beergarden. Not the most interesting Marzen but for what it is, quite enjoyable.

A fine example of a fest beer. Pours a hazy/murky amber with thick beaded bubbles that dies down quickly to a big bubbled light foam with light clinging to the glass. Bready aromas and caramel malt on the nose. Light low carbonated mouthfeel with caramel malts and fresh bread up front and very VERY light bittering hops in the background. True to the style and VERY nice indeed. Cheers.

500ml bottle. Pours a fairly clear amber with a small white head. Nice lacing. Smells clearly of caramel malts; very slightly fruity. Simple, but not one-dimensional. More strong caramel malt in the taste with a lot of mineral character. Earthy. Light hops toward the finish dry it out and make it incredibly drinkable. The kind of thing you could drink all day long.

Brewed at Weissenohe Monastary in Weissenhoe, Germany.

A: Poured a predominantly pumpkin orange with marzen highlights throughout. The head started out with a macro-bubbly appearance, 1 finger high and was soft beige in color before lapsing to a smooth creamy whipped coating ¼ finger high. Upon the initial pour the inner glass was lined like bubble wrap composed of micro-carbonation bubbles clinging to the sides, which quickly dissolved leaving behind only a faint and light offering. All in all a decent showcase here appearance wise of a traditional german marzen that should generate few complaints.

S: The nose was clean and soft in nature with light hints of semi-dry oranges and sweet caramelized grains. Fresh bread-dough is also evident while the hops were hard to pick up if any with vague hints of fresh flowerys, mostly greenery coming through with perhaps a touch of sunflowers.

T: The flavor starts out with a beautiful and forth-right display of semi-dry noble flowery hops. The malting is smooth and lusciously sweet with a bit of munich dry toasted grain backing. Midway through there is a sharp spicy hop bite (tettnang?) that really stands out giving this some bite. The beer then proceeds to a light lemony hopping and caramelized grain sweetness for the finish accompanied by a fruitiness of ripe apples and pears. This is what I envision a true german marzen to be. A light noble flowery hopping gives some dryness to the finishing fade giving you incentive looking forward to the next taste.

m: The mouthful was soft, creamy with a light bodied and almost no carbonation getting in the way which only increases the soft luscious feel. Very smooth though out, and again better then expected results.

D: A very smooth drinking experience that brings a nice flowery hop bite and smooth creamy malting to the table which only increases its enjoyability factor. There was a slight bit of alcohol presence which may hinder this as an all day drinker, perhaps more suited in more moderate quantities but should achieve a much higher level of satisfaction. Mug worthy toaster with repeat drinkability and purchase, particularly from a brewer I never previously heard of. I would certainly advocate this for strong recommendation at any Octoberfest gathering.

Shelton Bros. import label, "Weissenohe Monk's Fest" half-liter fliptop. A slight "pfft" when the seal was broken.

Light orange, high clarity, it glistens in the light. Two fingers of foam settle down to a thin skim. Fruity yeast and bready caramel notes in the aroma. Taste offers the same, an initial light fruity sweetness, caramel middle, light noble hop on the end. Light bodied, pretty much to style. An easy drinker, probably best on tap in a half-liter mug. A little bit pricey ($5) for a Märzen, but it's well made.

Poured from a 0.5L swing top bottle into a flared pint glass. Moderate hand. No identifiable date on the label.

A: Nice, rich amber/chestnut brown body with good clarity. 1 finger of dense, off-white head. Ok retention. Light lacing.

S: Sweet malt notes with nuts, almond, fainter dark fruit, grape. Increasingly fruit-forward as it warms. Apple juice and maybe some green apple towards the bottom of the glass. Touch of floral hops.

T: Lightly sweet, fruity notes open, followed by a rather pronounced pretzel-like malt. More toasted pretzel with buttery, nutty elements lead to a noble hop bitterness. Fairly dry finish. Minimal alcohol presence. Some lingering toasty bread in the aftertaste, but mostly clean.

M: Very smooth, moderate carbonation with a medium body. Rich feel without any heaviness.

O: Interesting dichotomy of fruit-forward nose and malty flavors that really invoke pretzels on my palate. I really dug this one. Great stuff.

A: Pours a nice rich brown color. In a way, it looks like a cream soda (just had one, hence the comparison). Not as dark as I expected. Decent head, minimal lacing, lasts only a few minutes.
S: Not great. A little acid-like, nothing to draw you in.
T: The taste makes up for the smell...that is why we drink! Not as rich in taste as other Marzens, but not bad either. Taste doesn't last long either, no after taste, seems like your pallet is clean and dry after each drink.
M: Nothing exciting here. Again, not as rich as other Marzens.
D: A decent bier, not great, but I will have it again. A decent representation of the style.

Mild recommendation. Prosit.

Filtered Marzen. Pours out really clear weak Ice Tea color with one finger of creamy white suds. No lacing to speak of.
Smell is spicy with nutmeg and yeast and bready malts. Label says liquid bread.
Taste is caramel malt with a tinge of bitterness probably from the hops or the bitter wheat.
Mouthfeel is very clean except for a sugary stickyness at the end of the tasting.
Drinkability is pretty nice here, I would quaff a couple of these bad boys if I had them.

A: The beer is clear light amber in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high off white head that died down and left a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and a thin ring around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of caramel and bready malts in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has light flavors of caramel, but the hops prevent any malty sweetness from being noticeable. There are some hints of spicy yeast towards the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit watery on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and is a good representation of the style.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. White head, moderate retention, soapy lacing, light, clear copper body. Aroma includes a caramel malt sweetness, light bitterness and a nice classic German marzen crispness. Taste follows suit, with a nice nutty, chestnut flavor. Very easy to drink, quite flavorful.

Pours into a pint glass a slightly hazy orange/gold with a thin white head that quickly dissipates into nothing more than lacing on the surface of the liquid.

A pronounced roasted smell is what I can detect first, followed by a subtly sweet grain note, and a strange and surprising whiff of bitter chocolate.

The taste is reminiscent of a nice toasted biscuit, with a deliciously bready aftertaste. Very simple and satisfying. Medium-bodied, very smooth, and excellently drinkable.

Poured into dimpled seidel. Nice little head that gives way to a foamy ring and a wash of lace. Beautiful dark amber color.

Nose of cream, oats, honey, and sour yeast.

Taste: The sour from the nose is well-blended.

Smooth, clean mouth.

Definitely the best I've had in the style. Ostensibly a throwback to the original, darker Oktoberfestbiers.
