Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Rich creamy head with bouquet of Wheat malt, black current, clove, and apple. Deep full flavors of caramel and chocolate malt balance with hops for a smooth warming character. Smooth malt leads to a subtle alcohol and dark caramel finish. The wonderful balance of this beer provides a complex profile hiding the 9.5% alcohol content. The perfect companion for a cold winter night.

Undated bottle poured into Ramstein pint glass. It pours a very dark cola color with one finger of foamy, khaki-colored head and lacing. Its smell is primarily roasted malt, clove, caramel, and tobacco smoke. The taste features a blast of sweet plum, raisin, and banana, along with malt and caramel. The finish is peppery with a residual taste of spice and hops. The mouth feel is creamy, almost chewy, with moderate carbonation. The 9.5% ABV is evident. This is a sipper for sure. Ramstein is very adept at producing authentic German beers and this Weizenbock is no exception. Well-crafted and tasty, it would pair well with a hearty meal or as a winter sipper.

pours dark brown cloudy from the gross looking yeast. almost purple head. aroma of plums currants cream and some spicey roasted cereal and a hint of cocoa. it really smells amazing. nice full rounded toasted malt bitterness flavor smoothed out with a luscious fruitiness little kick of the ol boozerini in the back end. some lingering medicinal notes. thin body. some years are better than others this year is bangin. i just wish it didn't look all gross with yeasty jizz dropping all thru it.

Poured from the bottle into a curved wheat ale glass. Probably a bit of overkill for a 12 oz. bottle but hey gotta live large and in the moment.

Deep burnt red and brown body color, with an opaque character. Tan bubbles make a cascade sligtly, but not a big rush off the pour. Two finger creamy tan head, fine and chocolate like topped whip cream. A few extra dregs added lighten the body. Supper slow ultra fine carbonation that is really just crawling barely up the glass.

Deep phenolic nose, with hints of fig raisin, lots of clove and nutmeg. Real big spicy banana quality going mixing with a spruce/pine herbality that is quite impressive. Slight spicy hot but not from alcohol. Very different bock and quite the impressive aroma.

Very tasty palate. Light bodied but also has a caramel feeling mouthfeel, and this nice touch of faint peppery carbonation. The mid palate really coats rich with a milk chocolate like base and mixing banana flavors. Through in the creamy texture and it's banana split flavors abounding (not unlike Korbininan). A noticeable difference in spice like tones as well. Carbonation really brings out great nutmeg and cinnamon flavors mixing in with the chocolate qualities. Even a slightly drying finish hints at baked brown spices. Clean finish, and great after aromatics on the swallow of hot cinnamon.

Wow, what a very different take on a Weizenbock. Very memorable brew.

(on tap at Bridgewater's Pub - served in an Erdinger Weizen glass)

A: fairly clear, dark, air-dried blood crimson... tall stand of compact, creamy-spongy foam... the lack of retention was clearly due to the cleanliness of the glass - did spring up some foam which each big sip

S: invitingly bold dark fruit - plum, mainly - with a good bit of roasty grain poking through... bit of a leafy hop presence and mineral note... not terribly clove-y or yeasty-spicy

T: heavy on dark fruit flavors - kind of like a non-sweet plum or blackberry brandy... fair bit of hop and roast bitterness, though it's relatively mellow and merely serves to dry the beer out a bit... some vague background clove... not at all sweet as far as fruit flavors go and not terribly malty either, which is the biggest snag in its overall quality - would love to have a moderate, balancing doughy/bready flavor - not enough 'yeast' notes, otherwise a fantastic, explosive taste

M: a bit thin and lager-clean/crisp, but on par with what the aromas suggest

O: this tastes a good bit like my homebrew Weizenbock, this one obviously having more developed, dynamic character... really, all this needs is a meaty malt punch.... I would certainly drink this again, preferably in High Point's taproom
