Notes / Commercial Description:
Rich creamy head with bouquet of Wheat malt, black current, clove, and apple. Deep full flavors of caramel and chocolate malt balance with hops for a smooth warming character. Smooth malt leads to a subtle alcohol and dark caramel finish. The wonderful balance of this beer provides a complex profile hiding the 9.5% alcohol content. The perfect companion for a cold winter night.

Served from a growler. Muddy brown appearance, capped with the usual impressive head of wheat beers. Aromas of rum raisin, toasted grain, and currant. Yeasty notes of clove and banana are more restrained here, taking a backseat to the aforementioned qualities. Some caramelized sugar, too. This smells like it should taste pretty good, and it does. Just as the aroma suggests, it's got a fruit-forward flavor profile with lesser contributions from roasted barley and wheat. Only the slightest hint of alcohol on the finish. High Point knows German styles, and this strong, dark wheat bock is a pleasure to drink.

I can't really add anything that Jason Alstrom didn't already say about the characteristics of this beer. All I can say is that it is my favorite beer and I look forward to it every year. I've had it in bottles and on tap, and it has never disappointed. I do agree that the ABV is hard to believe. It is a dangerously smooth and drinkable beer at 9.5 % ABV.

Another great US craft weizenbock from Ramstein. Very dark appearance with lots of deep-roasted malt and fruity esters. The finish is burnt wood and earthy hops which is different than the typical Bavarian versions. Personally, I prefer the burnt caramel notes to the fruitier German weizenbocks. I really wish this and the other Ramstein brews were easier to find in PA since availability is important to a beer consumer. Fortunately, I came across this one at Capone's and am very thankful for that.

Appearance is quite dark, almost a stout like appearance with nothing more than a tiny rim of head. Nose is unique and very malty. Notes of grape candy, wheat, and a hint of soy sauce and cocoa. Taste has fruity components up front with emphasis on grapes and maple syrup, this is followed by notes of carob and figs with a touch of balsamic vinegar on the finish. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick with low carbonation. Overall, this is a very unique and complex weizenbock, however the flavors just don't agree with me.
