Witz & I are island hopping. Nassau, Suffolk, Peconic, who knows, anything can happen, although not really. I mean, shit’s just opening up and It being very good drinking weather and all, the highways are hopping and I’m not looking for hours in the car today. Yeah, I want to get out east east east, but we’ll not push too far out today. South of Sunrise Highway near the train station Lindenhurst, just over the county line into Suffolk near that brewery and now that other brewery, Sand City…
Large rectangular space in a used to be a CVS kind of way. Vaulted black I-Beam, rafter, & plank ceilings with spins & ductwork across the room, and slat wood floors waving off the bar. Brick & cinderblock long wall to the front. Gray painted side wall with a row of square windows offering views of bustling town over vertical wood lowers, and muraled up towards the backside and to the rear (NYC, Brooklyn Bridge, tasty waves, VW bus on the open road, hops). Gumdrop lamps above, spots about, and drop filament single softballs tracing the bar.
‘L’ shaped split tree topped bar with a vertical plank wood base, and only 6 stools tightly together towards one end. It’s a big L, but it’s slight seating there and that’s that. Vertical dark wood pieced bar island holds 2 dozen non-descript handles on phat piping. Cupware on both ends beer trayed, pint glasses shelved below, and growls on the bottom. Offensive slushy machine happening over there (me, pointing). Let us not speak of it again.
Far barback (farback) is more cut tree topped counter space with canned offerings displayed. And then there’s the brewery sunken just beyond. I think it’s a 20bbl system, with a lot of fucking room to grow. 6 long tables, hightop and not, and more than a dozen barrel 2 seat tables. Roll up panel doors to the side, accessible through the entrance, as well. 4 picnics outside with bench seating the length of the pen, and some fire pit action, too.
Giant 3 panel triptych untapped board listing 6 drafts per panel (beer, style, & ABV) on the back wall. 18 taps live at present. 16 beers, half of which are IPAs (Day Drifter, IPA, 5.5%; Classic Girl, IPA, 6.5%; Fade to Jade, IPA, 7.2%) and Imperial IPAs all strangely weighing in at 8.5% (Even ‘Mo Queen, Imperial IPA, 8.5%; Infinity X Chaos, Imperial IPA, 8.5%; Double Something Infinity, Imperial IPA, 8.5%; Suspended Solids, Imperial IPA, 8.5%; Man Hands, Imperial IPA, 8.5%). The other half are a pleasant mix of styles & ABV’s (Lindy Lager, American Lager, 4.7%; Roaring Moon, Witbier, 5.5%; Stormborn, Belgian Blonde Ale, 6%; Enough Already Already, Blueberry/Blackberry Gose, 6%; Red Sand, American Amber, 6.8%; Southdown Breakfast Stout, nitro Coffee Stout, 7.5%; Handsome Maniac, Belgian Tripel, 10%; Guava Freak, Belgian Tripel, 11%). And then a single seltzer (Loganberry Swelltzer, hard seltzer, 6%) and a guest mead (W.A. Meadworks, Peanut Butter & Grape drink Melomel, 5.4%).
I had 3 beers. As Lindy Lager, American Lager had just kicked, I started with Red Sand, American Amber (sweet maltiness, toffee, caramel maybe), then Fade to Jade IPA (not a hazy, pleasant citrus & pine, a bit boozy), and then Guava Freak, Belgian Tripel (I like Guava, but I think it buries the candy sugar spiciness you get in a Tripel. Still, it did not suck). I’m going with Fade to Jade IPA for the win. Need to do another round here where I can do shorties of more things.
Michelletender today, she seems to know her bi’ness. We discovered that there are secret snacks. Tunes, yes. Definitely not my Spotify list and it was loud (get off my lawn). 16 beers up, a solid enough mix of this and that. Good house but I think the north shore location is more me.

This is the new south shore outpost of Long Island's heavy hitter Sand City Brewing.
This is a larger box of a place, with high ceilings, large windows out onto the busy street scene, and a medium to large out door seating area. Just a block or two from the LIRR stop. Place was rocking on the sunny Sunday afternoon that we visited, they are gonna sell A LOT of their tasty beer here. New atmosphere, but same deal as the North location, tasty juiced up and highly worthy IPAs and stouts to stay or to go in tall cans. Feel free to bring in your own food. Much less out of the way for many, larger room to handle the hordes of fans, same tasty offerings...well worth a visit.
