Pours out black with some light on the sides that can get through when put up against my lamp. Head is a nice brown, but does not last.

Smell. Small amount of burnt aromas with some chocolate to it. I get a strong bitterness that sticks out, in which its like a cascade hop smell, but with a little smoke to it. interesting.

Taste. The chocolate really tastes smokey to me initially. flavor is certainly on the more bitter side and quite drying. The cocoa really sticks out as the dominant flavor, but does not take over completely as there is a good amount of burnt and coal like flavors too. As it warms, the flavor begins to tart a little to me, and the body thins out a little making it feel a little oily. Aftertaste continues with the smokey flavors and remains bitter. after a bit of not drinking it tastes like i just took a drag of a cigarette.

Mouthfeel. Body is medium, but a little light i think for the style as it never has a heaviness to it, and after it warms i get that thinning oil texture to it. carbonation is at a good level.

Overall, an interesting beer. It's one i would not want to have more than a bottle at a time. but the flavors in it gives it a little uniqueness, however, I think it falls in the cracks of other beers for not standing out with good enough flavors, as I am now wishing this was a mackeson xxx or a rogue chocolate stout- too close to beers i like more and makes we wish i had that one instead. But still worth a try.

A - The darkest brown possible. Opaque. Nice lacing, 2 finger head, and moderate carbonation. This is a very pretty brew.

S - Roasted malt, sour milk, cocoa.

T - Full bodied, burnt, and bordering on a little too harsh. The brew is not overly bitter; it could contain a lactose sweetener. Severely roasted malts, burnt coffee, and cocoa is apparent. The taste of alcohol is disguised very well.

M - Thin, but slightly sticky.

D - Good drinkability. A little expensive though.

All in all, I think that this stout is slightly above average; though it would be nice to have a "drink by" date etched somewhere on the bottle. Although this beer is not perfected, I would definitely drink it again.

Appearance - Pours near black with brown edging. The head is about a finger thick, light cocoa colored, and shows fair retention. Very little, if any, lacing.

Smell - Predominant bittersweet dark cocoa aroma. Notes of earth. Hints of caramel.

Taste - More earthy than chocolate. Dirt. Lightly touches on caramel. Finishes with mild earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Light in body. Almost watery. Weak carbonation. Slight tingle on the lips.

Overall - Stout? Hardly. Chocolate? Barely. This is a poor beer, even weaker as a stout, and a shame to be called a chocolate stout. I've had this beer a few times in the past. This will be my final time.

12oz. bottle served into a pint glass

Pours a, oh, you know, it's dark brown. It looks like a stout. The body doesn't appear to have a bunch of viscosity to it. The head was over a finger in size, but with loose, large bubbles.

The aroma is, as you might expect, pretty much dominated by chocolate. Milk chocolate mostly. It smells creamier than it looks. There's some vanilla bean here, as well as some generic maltiness. Pretty standard stuff for a sweet stout (not the style, but the description).

The taste follows the nose. You get the chocolate milkshake flavor right away, followed by some grainy malt flavors. Not much depth of malt flavor here, which is most disappointing. It's pretty much a one-trick pony. It tastes good, if you're wanting a sweet chocolatey drink. But it may not totally satisfy your beer needs.

The body is not as creamy as it needs to be for a beer like this. It's not egregiously thin, but the flavors call for a smooth creaminess that this beer doesn't deliver.

Overall, this is a very average chocolate stout. Nothing about it is bad or off-putting, it's just completely innocuous.

A- a nice black with brown tones. Nice brown color to the beer foam.
S- lots of roasty malt smell, some cocoa
T- notes of acrid coffee, black patent, mild hops. Slight flavor of bitter cocoa. Almost to much bite from the roasted malts.
M- way too watery, especially for a stout
D- Its average, not bad but not great.

This beer is way too thin, too watery. Also the cocoa is barley there, it more just tasted like a regular watered down stout. This beer has potential, especially if they give it a little more mouthfeel and a little more cocoa. I wanted to like this beer , I really did, but its just misses for a stout.

Overall, its disappointing. Super watery for a stout. Very mild chocolate notes in the flavor. The smell makes you think there'd be more chocolate and roasty flavors. The price point is great at $4, but I'd gladly spend more for a better beer next time.

I picked this beer up on a whim -- I saw it at The Party Source and thought it sounded pretty good. I've been drinking a lot of stouts lately and a nice chocolately one typically sounds good, and well, this one is called "Chocolate Stout." However, sometimes we don't always get what we pay for.

Appearance: Well, it started out pretty strong for me -- a nice dark, thick pour that was near black. Like most stouts, completely opaque. A nice two finger tan head was present, but quickly dwindled to just a thin layer on top that left a slight lacing at the top of the glass as it trailed down.

Smell: Called Chocolate Stout for a reason - very strong presence of it right up front and made me very excited to dive into it. A little malty and slight bitter/roasty scent in the back of it too. Again, started nice and strong.

Taste: OK -- still not too bad, and actually pretty fair. Not as sweet as I thought it would be based upon the smell. More the semi-sweet/bitter presence right up front, followed by the roasty back.

Mouthfeel: Meh. Let down. Very watery and not as thick as I would have at all wanted or expected. All in all though, it still goes down pretty smooth and leaves a fair coating on the tongue, but man, I really expected a little more substance.

Drinkability: While the appearance, smell and taste were pretty decent, the mouthfeel really let me down. To me, that's half the fun of a nice stout and I was just let down by this. I have 5 left, and it won't bother me to drink them over the next week or so, but I don't think I'll be purchasing any more of it.

A - Poured into mug. Opaque dark dark brown, almost black in color. A finger of light brown head on top.

S - Dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, sweet malt.

T - Dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, sweet cream, marshmallow, malt.

M - Medium bodied, well carbonated, slick and smooth.

O - This is a delicious treat of a beer. It almost qualifies as a dessert to me with its rich chocolatey tones and hints of caramel and even burnt marshmallow.

A - Dark in color, some purple hues. Very small head though and falls quickly leaving little to no lacing.

S - Smells like a porter. Roasted malts and coffee stand out most of all, with chocolate undertones.

T - Very well balanced. Chocolate is not overpowering like some chocolate stouts, but instead is an excellent supplement to the roasted malts and coffee flavors. Hops provide a good balance of undertones.

M - Good, a full feeling beer without being overly carbonated.

D - Great drinkability and would be an excellent session beer.

My first impression of this was uh oh, because the appearance really is not good and looks watered down. But after trying it this beer has a great flavor and is definitely worth a try. overall a well balanced stout and a good after dinner or session beer.

Poured black, with tan 3 finger head from an aggressive pour. Pretty decent lacing for a stout.

Smell is Roasted malt and coffee, not much else.

Taste - First few sips were pretty metallic, but as it warmed up it faded, but never went away entirely. I was able to pick some chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts, no hop presence at all.

Mouthfeel is thin.

Overall this is a pretty good stout - nothing phenomenal, but at less than $4 a bomber - its a pretty good deal.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Ruby-brown in color, with a thick, two-inch head of off-white foam.
Aroma-Faint cocoa
Taste-Subtle milk chocolate, coffee notes. A bit thin-bodied, seemed more of a porter than a stout. Not too bad overall, but I was left wanting a bit more in the flavor department.
