On tap at the brewpub – Healdsburg, CA
06/12/14 - Served in a full Pint glass

A: Lightly burnished caramel amber color with good clarity and some golden tones. Thin rim of paper white froth dispels rather easily leaving behind some sticky ribbons of lace on the glass.

S: Smells like a fresh mix of pine sprigs and ruby red grapefruit zest with a slight catty twist. There is a lot of juicy citrus kick in the aroma with some subtle bready pale malts hanging in the backdrop. Smells like a good old fashion Simcoe dry hopping.

T: The flavors bring more of the bready malt base to the forefront with some light caramel sweetness. A bit of a step down from the nose. Simcoes are present with notes of citrus, spruce, and some dank flowers. Not super bitter and a touch watered down to me. A decent drink but not the Simcoexplosion I was looking for.

M: The mouth feel again is light and a bit watered down. Not incredibly bitter or resinous at all really. Some nice drying efforts on the finish.

D: Found this one lacking a bit. Nothing flawed and very easy drinking but it just underwhelmed me. Even as a single hop beer Simcoes are known to deliver some really great hop flavors. This was nice but sounded much better on the menu.

On tap at the brewery in Heladsburg. Yellow-orange color, decent head. Aroma was hops but one dimensional (imagine that), not quite catty as I've found simcoes to be nor dank. Flavor was nice, moderate bitterness, hoppy but again felt very one-dimensional and just didn;t really grab my attention or give me anything to ponder. I'm starting to realize that I don't care for single hop beers.
