This brown ale pours a very dark, murky brown color with an almost non-existent tan head. The smell is very faint, but it is of molasses. There is a big malt punch here with a body that is bordering on stout territory. There are bold flavors of chocolate, molasses and brown sugar. The finish is semi-dry and there is a little hop character that peeks through the massive malts. Bear Republic is to me a fairly mediocre brewery, but this beer is one of their better ones. This is a really nice example of a robust brown ale.

Pours a basic brown color with a finger of head. The nose is classically bready. The flavor profile is solidly malty and the body is more hearty than the average brown ale. The finish is semi-dry with a hint of brown sugar.

I am a big fan of hearty brown ales and this one knocks off Tumbler as my new favorite brown ale!

this is a bomb brown ale. you can really feel and taste the molasses and brown sugar, and i think overall they have done an incredible job with this beer, that skirts the line between american brown and american porter in terms of style. nice head on the pour, some red edges on my nonic pint glass, but mostly brown in looks. some slightly tannic or metallic elements in the nose, but they mostly go away in the taste and feel. sparged a little warm maybe, but there are a lot of pros here. deep malted chocolate layers, hints of barbecue and butterscotch, even whiskey for a moment. the added sugars make all the difference, and make this an awfully unique glass of brown ale. tons of residual sugar and even a little fusel alcohol. i dont hate it, but it brings a new twist to the style. flavors of copper piping, rum raisin, and oxidation all creep in at the end, but with the molasses flavor, it all ends up working out. very very righteously carbonated for the style, and squarely medium on the body. i could float in a bath of this i think. overall another excellent and original offering from bear republic. these guys just dont get enough credit for being innovators. this is super tasty and well worth finding in the market...

This one was ok, but not my favorite. It could just be the style though.
