Sampled at Snallygaster 2014. Great taste, very smooth, a bit hot.

Served in a sampling glass at the brewery. 2010 edition.

A: Dark amber, clear and pleasant. Light head good lacing.

S: Superb. This is what a barley wine should taste like. Rich, bready malts with strong alcohol and hops offering accents.

T: Initially, almost overwhelmingly sweet. Rich Demerera sugar and overripe fruit fade into a bittersweet finish with strong American hops providing an insidious undercurrent of citric acid and heavy bitterness. The aftertaste is dry and pleasant.

M: Smooth and lightly spicy, but flattish.

O: A wonderful beer that I would drink again, highly recommend, and quite enjoyed.

Had on tap at Torondao Bwine Festival 2008: It was a blend of 1999 and 2007 and man was it good. One of the crowd favs!

Poured a deep rich copper color. Had some piney hops on the nose and man you could smell the malts too. ..very nice..there was a lsight butterscotch taste. The ABV I thought was well above 11 but it was not overbearing. A few of these and I wouldhave been out. A good sipping barleywine but so sweet and potent only a few would one be able to handle...if you are a lightweight

i liked the stuff...maybe they'll make a habit of it. once again, not sure what to apply for the availability. served in a wine glass

caramelly copper color (we'll revisit this caramel idea) with a great bone-colored head (hmmm...great bone head) and very good lacing

more piney hops with substantial bitterness, but believe it or not this beer is malty (no...BRBC make a malty beer?). toffee, caramel, huge diacetyl butterscotchy thing going on. butterscotch aroma and a super creamy mouthfeel

the butterscotch (butterscotchbutterscotch) is bigtime, but i like it. it's a tip-of-the-tongue experience

ad a glass of this one on tap last night before the festivities. Served cooled and into a 10oz glass, this one was consumed on 06/09/2010.

Nice dark amber pour with a very small and quickly fleeting head of light white that seemed to stay as a ring around the sides of the glass for a good few minutes until all that was left was a top, bare of any lace.

Aroma is sweet right off the bat. Lots of caramel and honey, hints of deep and sweet malts dominate. Warming brings out touches of earthy hops, light pine aroma and a deep, bready character that carries with it a touch of booze. Follows through perfectly with the flavor. Sweet bready malt dominates here with light touches of hops that are just noticeable and give it a little bit of a cut to it. Hints of boozy notes and a smooth, earthy flavor make I coat the palate with a lovely sweetness that is hinting at biscuits and buttery malts. Nice finish with a dry, nearly candied sugar and syrup like feel that really starts to warm the belly and give you that nice round feeling.

Overall a very solid ale here. A little boozy and strong, but I think it works. Would be curious to get a bottle of this one and try it out in a year or so, seems like it would work quite nicely in that time.
