(From notes)

A: Hazy gold, no head, no lacing.

S: Standard fare for a wit...clove, allspice, banana, and citrus. Good, not nothing unique.

T: Very good blend of the citrus, spice, and banana, but...

M: ...the body was a little lacking, even for a wit. Had the thin texture of a Corona, but very little carbonation.

D: Thin body with a good flavor blend certainly make this a good session beer.

On draft at Rattle N' Hum, NYC.

Poured a slightly hazy light copper hue with a one finger frothy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a very eatery yeast and wheat spice.
Elements of coriander and citrusvdetectef as well.

The taste consisted of a spicy malt, lemon zest and an estery yeast.

The mouthfeel was toward the thinner side of the style.

Overall a tasty and spicy wit.

A - Slightly hazy light straw yellow. Nice pure white head

S - Lemony and yeasty aromas, very delicate, but still nice

T - Very true to style, citruisy and yeasty flavors, but was nearing on a German-style wheat at some points during the sample

M - Lightly carbonated, and would expected a bit more body

D - This was an pretty drinkable brew, but it was lacking a bit in complexity

Overall, I wanted a bit more of a 'snap' in flavor and complexity. However, this was still a solid brew and would recommend.

On tap at TJ's--Paoli, PA

A-Golden yellow with a medium white head that reduced to a thin cap and left spotty lace. Nice effect from the lively carbonation.

S-"Typical" wit aromas with fruity yeast, earthiness, spice and a hint of orange zest.

T-Spicy orange zest, coriander and biscuit malt. Very tasty as all the flavours blend very well.

M-Light bodied with a good, sharp crispness and bite from the spices and hops.

D-Bear Republic scores again! Well done take on this Belgian classic. You would have a tough time guessing that this wasn't from Belgium! Very fresh and highly drinkable.

On-tap at The Farmhouse in Emmaus, PA.

Recently I complained about Mendocino's wit being too bold and not subtle enough for a wit. This beer, however, manages a larger than normal flavor, while staying balanced and drinkable. Really, this could pass for a Belgian pale ale, for it's smooth rich flavor. The wheat component of the malt flavor is also very slight compared to the spicy and fruity yeast character or citrus rind hops. So while, its not quite to style, it's a tasty Belgian.

On tap at EJ Phair in Concord, CA.

I'm guessing this is a sister to the Crystal Wit. But, I hadn't even heard about the beer until I saw it on tap. It's served a cloudy/opaque pastel straw yellow with a thin white frothy head. There's a significant floral and orange citrus aroma along with some pithy orange rind notes. The flavor is heavy on the spicy clove along with some citrus. It's dry too. There's not much in the way of body or mouthfeel, but it's extremely refreshing. I really enjoyed this beer. It could easily be a daily drinker from about April through August.
