I thought this one a touch heavy on the honeyed citrus for the style, and perhaps just a touch too heavy overall, but it was also pretty darn tasty, so it's hard to complain. They say both malt/yeast is from Cologne, but I wonder about the hops, as there was something almost Australian/New Zealand about them. Anyway, whatever the style, definitely worth a pour.

A - dark golden somewhat translucent beer with an airy head and some nice lacing.

S - earth and bread

T - earth and bread but with a lot of bitterness at the end

M - thick and chewy

D - session beers always get higher scores with me.

This is a Kolsch? Reminded me more of a cream ale with a lot of bitterness. The mild bread flavors was the only Kolsch characteristic. Not a bad beer at all - just not a good kolsch.

A-Pours a rich yellow color. Head is a thin, white froth collection. Very mild lacing. Body is mostly clear.

S-Softer nose. Grains and some Kolschy yeast. Light grass and some honeyed sweetness. Simple but alluring.

T-Flavor is more of the same. It's a tad bit stronger than the aroma. Dried, cooked grains and grass. A semi-tangy yeastiness. Balancing maltiness of both dry bread and sweet honey.

M-Light bodied. Prickly carbonation. Low bitterness. Very drinkable. Aftertaste lingers for a bit.

O-A well done Kolsch. I am becoming more and more partial to the style and it's hidden intricacies. This was a good one.

On-tap at The Salty Pig in Boston, served in a pint glass.

A- Appears a very clear transparent golden straw color, a quarter finger of head forms that dissipates to a lasting thin layer, fairly low carbonation of small slowly rising bubbles, fairly light webby lacing coats the sides of the glass.

S- Not a ton of aroma and fairly hard to discern. Light aromas of lager malts, wheat, and some light fruit hiding in the background. Not bad aroma wise, just not strong enough- really have to take it in to discern.

T- Crisp lager malts with hints of apples, bananas, and lemons. Fruitiness is hard to discern but overall lends a nice taste that complements the beer well. Finishes with a lager mealtinnes and a slight fruity aftertaste that lingers.

M- Crisp, very drinkable, light while still maintaining a nice rounded body, very good feel for a Kolsch.

O- Kolsch's aren't my favorite style but this was a pretty good example of the style. It had a nice crisp lager presence that was very easy to session. Definitely a nice beer to have on a hot summer day and something I wouldn't mind revisiting again in the future.
