On tap at Bailey's Taproom PDX 11/13, Imperial Pint $5.00. The menu indicated this as 8.7% ABV

Light amber body, creamy white head, nice lacing. Big piney hops, a bit chewy, in the nose and taste with some bready malts. Dry bitter finish. Pretty drinkable for hopheads. I like how Bear Republic is pushing the hoppiness meter, though I prefer Racer X to this.

Enjoyed an Imperial Pint of this in Portland, OR at Bailey's Taproom.

Came with a finger of creamy/tight off white head. The head had excellent retention then left a ton of lacing behind in the glass. Lovely rings of progress were left as the beer was consumed. I just love that. The beer itself was a brown shoe polish color with some maroon notes. Slightly hazy..

Aroma is quite nice and seems to be fairly balanced. Some resinous pine, bright citrus and sweet caramel/malt. A touch of roasted malt notes in the aroma as well.

I enjoy this and while it wasn't served on cask, it almost had that taste and feel. Again, balance rules the day here. Certainly an aggressive hop profile, but a nice malt backbone as well. Toffee, fruity esters and some sweetness with the malt flavors and plenty of pine and grapefruit here contributed by the strong hop additions. The lingering bitterness has a subtle sweetness in the background that again speaks to the balance.

Mouth feel is medium bodied and very smooth. Very slight carbonation and again, felt a little like a cask ale.

I really enjoyed this and would seek it out again. I didn't think it was listed as a DPA, but that's not really an issue.

On tap at East Burn in PDX. Thanks to ramnuts for DDing and buying this for me.

The menu advertised this as a leftover keg from GABF, which is pretty cool. It claims 10%. The Bear Republic website has an IPA by the same name, at 8.7%, so I'm not sure what to think. I'm just gonna go ahead...

A: Pours a dark copper-amber, hazy slightly hazy body with fantastic cream-colored head in the glass. Retention is excellent, and it leaves great lace down the sides.

S: Strong citrus (grapefruit, orange rind) with pine resin, earth, caramel, and chocolate. In some ways it reminds me of an imperial red, actually. Pretty good smell.

T: The taste, though... That's where this one shines. Starts off with caramel and chocolate, although both recede mightily as the beer warms. Strong citrus flavors, but they are then overtaken by spice and earth in the mid-taste. The backend sees a development of pine resin. Earth pulls through into the finish, which is a balanced blend of grapefruit and resin. Lingering bitterness.

M: Medium-full, chewy body and moderate-high carbonation. Despite this, the body is sticky. Lightly dry finish.

D: The particular proportions of pine to caramel and chocolate struck me as just right in this beer. And I love citrus hops. I hope this becomes a mainstay.
