Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.75%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Café Racer 15™ features aromas of bright citrus and resinous pine from the generous use of Citra, Amarillo, Cascade and Chinook hops which are complimented by a dry malt finish. The result is a high revving Double IPA that is loud and assertive, much like the rebellious street racers who inspired it. Never ride alone...

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

Mild haze, good looking golden colored brew with some lively froth on top. Smells and tastes of citrus rind, tea, blonde tobacco, pine, and a faint evergreen. Warming but not hot, fruity with a long linger of hop resin on the palate. Juicy with some body from the malt. A powerful brew but for DIPA lovers this is certainly one of the best I've had in a good while.

A solid, malty DIPA. The first maltier Double I've had in a while that's worked so well. Pours an orange-yellow. Nose is equal parts malt and hop, and the palate follows the nose. Not earth-shattering, but certainly a well-made beer.

Placid pour, dark orange, fairly still, no real head.

Smells chinooky with some weird contemporary citrus hops thrown in. A not very comfortable mix of old and new. It's strong and balanced well against the malt but the hop profile clashes with itself.

Tastes a bit more cohesive than it smells but it still never really comes together. Old school DIPA up front, weird tea and citrus hops in the back.

I had to try this based on where it came in on the blind taste tests. At first smell and taste I was blown away. I don't even know how to explain the taste as it hits your taste buds. It is almost like some magical, un-natural, thing. So light airy and impossible to describe. However, the finish just didn't work for me. I am the first to confess that I probably have no clue what makes a good IPA, but I just wasn't down with the finish. If this finished a little more smoothly, I would have ranked it much higher.
