Pours a clear, pale orange, two fingers thick dense cream colored head; settles slowly to a small cap and leaves chunks of lace down the glass. Smell: floral, honeyed biscuit, grapefruit, apricot note, pine. Taste: orange, grapefruit, toffee, mild alcohol note, pine finish. Pretty much a DIPA template. While not exotic or particularly exciting, it's got no rough edges and hits the spot.

This was a great DIPA. It is rated World class but it is a bit shy IMO. The color and aroma of this beer is absolutely wonderfull. The taste is is a bit one sided.Plent of pine and grapefruit, with plenty of sweet malt to almost but not completely balance out the dank hops.

Pours muddy copper with a tinge of gold around the edges and a short white head. The nose is a huge ripe grapefruit with pine needle, tangerine, and biscuit malt. At the front of the tongue I get a lot of grapefruit flavor which blends into pine needle and onion, delivering a moderate bitterness that is balanced out by malt on the finish. For a double IPA it is very drinkable with a medium body and medium carbonation, but this is quite a mild example of the style. I would guess this was a regular IPA.

It's been a while since I have had the Racer 5, but I remember it being an above average IPA. I was excited to try the Racer X, but am a little disappointed. Nothing really stands out about this one for me. The hoppiness is kind of one dimensional with a piney taste, but that is quickly replaced with a malty aftertaste. It's not bad, but for the price there are a lot of other double IPA's I would rather have. Good thing it is Christmas and I got plenty of different options to choose from!
