This brew was served on tap at Rattle N’ Hum in New York, NY. It arrived in a Founders pint glass glowing a pale hazy golden coloring. It held a one finger head of tight white bubbles, showing a quick retention into a creamy film across the top of the liquid. Thick sheets of lacing were left down the sides of the glass. Moderate haze was noted without sediment. Carbonation appeared active. The aroma breathed strongly of lemon breakfast tea, which was added to by light citric hops, fresh orange zest, and bright tangerine sweetness. The grain was wheaty, with raw white flour, metallic yeast, bittered clovey phenols, and booze with warmth. Our first impression was that the flavoring was surprisingly hoppy against a background of big and bittered wheat. As we sipped, orange peel and pulp, bittered citric hops, and equally as bittered wheat started things off. The peak came with hints of vanilla fruity esters to the swallow, with yeasty metallics, musty aged cheddar, and that continued wheaty bitterness. The finish was with more bitterness of orange peel, citric and herbal hops, bittering phenols, chalky drying wheatiness, and the warming pepperiness of booze. The aftertaste breathed of herbal hops, slight mustiness, clovey phenols, and peppery booze. The body was thicker, and the carbonation was medium. There was nice slurp and smack, with good froth and cream. The sip was initially cooling, with a lighter pucker of the bitterness of the finish. The abv was fine, and the beer drank easily.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was its drinkability. The flavoring remained fresh for the most part, but with a rather bittered finish of wheat and herbal hops. While this curbed the drinking a bit, it kept in line with the robust qualities of flavoring. The nose was muted, and thus less contributory, but not annoyingly so. This is a fresh beer, and certainly something different from Bear Republic.
