Despite the name, this is not a wheat beer, it's a lager. "Weiss" refers to the brewery's family name.

330ML bottle poured into imperial pint glass
A - Slightly hazy yellow with an off white head that falls to a skim.
S - Grassy, grainy, toasted malts. Some hop bitterness. It has a nice abundant odor.
T - Taste follows smell.
M/F - Light in body. This beer is very smooth.
D - This is an easy choice for an everyday beer which is light yet has some nice mild complexities.

Served in draft. Decent beer. I thought it was a Pilsner as the place it is served at referred to it as a Pilsner as well. Taste was a little skunky but enjoyable.

Very good Helles/Export, sweet taste at the beginning and a lightly bitter tasting finish by hops. Very good refreshment, not to heavy.

Decent helles bier. From the bottle, it pours with a golden hue with a small head that slowly dissipates as you drink it. Enjoyable and definitely repeatable.

It's interesting that the reviews have been varied, but mostly positive. Only one review (positive) was about this beer from tap. We all know that the biggest problem facing the beer producer is shelf stability of bottled product for all sorts of reasons, so the variability can be due to this.

There is no doubt that this beer, when sampled fresh from tap, in Lindau on September 28/29 and 30 2012, does, in fact, punch well above it's weight for a Munich Helles style. Much comment has been made about the stronger hopping of this brew relative to the maltier helles of Munich and this is a feature I really like, being mainly a German Pils drinker. So it was a surprise to find this cleaner tasting, less complicated brew. The appearance was clear gold, and there was little hop aroma, as expected when Tettnang hops are employed, just the typical faint malty aroma of the style. The taste was the differentiator here, as many reviewers noted. The extra bitterness really boosted the style to a new level in my opinion, and it slipped down a treat. Definitely above average for it's style.

We need to watch out for the Allgaeu because trying this, and the excellent Farny Pilsner showed they are making some seriously good beer in this region, and it's worth watching for sure.

Very, very pale golden body: the beer before this was a Warsteiner and the difference in colour was obvious: and that isn’t a really deep golden yellow either. Usual helles/pilsner/lager white, thin covering for a head, I did pour it vigorously and a large head appeared initially, but by the time I’d picked up my pen to comment it had subsided greatly.

I found the beer to be odourless and bland from start to finish and although refreshing, bright, clear and clean it was just a fizzy, weak excuse for a beer. Looking at other reviews of this beer has got me slightly worried: am I missing something many have found or are they getting carried away with flavours and aromas they’ve imagined? This was the middle beer of three during the mini session I was having and it was by far the worst of them: Alpirsbacher Pilsner being the third beer.

I’ll call it delicate if you wish, but it didn’t do anything for me at all. It reminded me of cheap hot weather lagers served up along the shores of the Mediterranean in Spain or Italy.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains light malts, lager yeast, a touch of hops and some honey.

T: The taste starts out with a honey and thin malt sweetness followed by some mild grain breadiness. The hops presence is also mild and brings a little bit of balance. The after-taste is likewise sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, light-to-medium body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, there are better beers in the style but it’s worth drinking for a while.

I rather nice example of an Munich Helles. It features a reasonable hoppiness, more than an average Helles.
Golden in color with a white head, that quickly disolves.
Very clean malt palate and not much bitterness. Some herbal aromas and rather strong carbonation.
Well made, but not my favourite.

Beer review from BA Mag Dec 2007.

To clarify, the Weiss in this beer's name is the last name of the owners and has nothing to do with wheat, so this is not a weissbier. We've also been told that this particular beer is brewed with a generous amount of Tettnang hops.

A nearly brimming foam shows some action from the carbonation, good head retention and a perfect clarity in the bright pale-yellow color. Big aroma of noble hops, slightly spicy, lemony and sweet herbal notes in the dry malty nose. The rousing crispness wakes up the palate. Fluffy moderate-sized body. Hops are not shy here; bitterness comes in strong and the flavor is both complex and broad with a thick sweet herbal tone. Maltiness is dry but sturdy enough to hold this beer together, mild biscuity and grassy flavors from the grain. Alcohol is faint but a touch noticeable due to the dry character. Very clean throughout with a long trail of herbal hop and dry grain in the finish.

Drinkability is high even with a complex flavor profile, which is very impressive from hops to malt and back. This one is in the running to be the next top desert island beer of ours. Put Weiss-Gold on your must-have list now.
