Notes / Commercial Description:
Pours black as night with aromas of sweet chocolate, dark roasted malt, molasses, licorice, dark fruits and a fair amount of booze. The flavors start off with plenty of chocolate slowly giving way to hints of dark fruits, molasses, licorice, day old coffee and dark malt. The back finish is pretty sweet with quite a bit of booze lingering on the palate long after consumption.

Very dark brown, might as well be black, with shiny mocha edges and a swirling mocha carbonation.

I get notes of smoky char with bourbon heat first and foremost, with raisin, cocoa, roasted nuts and pine supporting. There is a lot of bourbon and smoke, eschewing the campfire but in keeping with barrel char.

Complex enough, but rounding out a bit hot for me.

650ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a dark chocolate brown body, nearly black, two finger mocha head with short retention, not much lacing at all, thin film. Smells of dark chocolate, cocoa, fair bit of smoky bourbon, mild char, touch of espresso. Flavour is similarly big and bold, lots of cocoa, bitter dark chocolate, smoke, bourbon, char, sweet molasses. It's got a nice big char bitterness to it. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good depth, a sipper with a fair bit of heat even now. Bitter char on the finish accentuated by sweet molasses. A big beer with appropriate body and mouthfeel, lots of flavour and complexity.

Nice stout. Barrel aging is lighter in character. Stout flavor is good though. Touch of happiness to beer. Overall a well blended beer. Excellent offering.

Definitely the best beer I had at the brewpub. Great aroma and an amazing amount of chocolate. The only thing lacking was alcohol content and I believe if this aged 12 months in the barrel instead of 6 it could be a world class beer.
