Had at Flossmoor's Brewpub. Review from phone notes.

A- Poured a deep dark brown color almost black. Half finger brown head has great retention. Light sticky streaking lacing on the glass.

S- Some light bittersweet chocolate notes grasp onto the roasted malts. Light coffee notes mix with a slight oxidated aroma. No real hops in this but the metallic tinge kills off the rest of the nose.

T- Flash of coffee in the front of this then blends into a roasted malt. Light chocoalte overtones with a interesting metallic tone to this as well. Don't know if there was something wrong with the tap line but this is where the flavors all washed away to a watery flavor. Kind of strange I thought.

M- Medium light mouthfeel. Medium in the front then light in the back. Roasted malts are left on the palate with a light watery sourness in the backing into the aftetaste. Light oxidation through the entire beer. Flavors blended alright before that.

D- This was not a drinkable beer and it was a hard one to choke back more than a couple sips of. Maybe it was a bad line...or a dirty glass. I feel a little robbed once I saw the couple reviews on this one. Might head back there and try again.

Nitro tap at the brewpub. This is from notes.

Pours like a nice nitro stout. Very dark red, nice chocolate brown head, the bubbles floating all downward and stuff.

Smells bittersweet with some odd medicinal nodes. It's dry, so most of the action is from the old world hops, not all that much complication in the malt profile.

Tastes like it smells, solidly brewed but not very complicated and with a little bit of mediciness that's not really nice but not really unpleasant.

Served on nitro-tap @ Flossmoor Station (Flossmoor, IL) on 4/23/10. Served in a footed tulip glass.

Pours a straight black in the glass, with a finger of creamy mocha colored creamy head. Classic nitro look here that leaves a latticework of rich lacing behind. The aroma smells of cocoa, coffee, and dry roasted malts. Sweet and toasty in the nose overall, with just a touch of citric hops in the background.

The taste is sweet up front with some chocolate and caramel notes but this is overall VERY dry feeling from the coffee and roast with a bit of earthy hops for balance. Naturally, much like the rest of the profile, the finish is long on lingering dry roast. The mouthfeel is medium but feels lighter from the nitro, with the usual solid easiness and drinkibility that you would usually find for the style. Not sure of the ABV on this one but it felt around in the 5% range.

Well balanced, flavorful, and easy drinking from the nitro, this was a solid take on a Dry Stout from Flossmoor and a good one to pair up with my meal that night.
