Dusty old bomber poured into a snifter appears black in color with a khaki head.
This smells of raisons, oxidative with a mildly chicolate roast character and earthen appeal.
Taste is a little bitter and earthen with cherry or raspberry seedy quality before an herbal bitterness comes through.
This is medium in body with modest carbonation. Not bad, not good. Kind of a muddled brew at this point.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color ale with nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of residual sugar with light roasted malt notes is quite nice. Taste is also dominated by some residual sugar notes with some roasted malt. Some dark fruits are also noticeable. Body is quite full with good carbonation with no real apparent alcohol. Easy drinking with just enough complexity which makes for a nice night cap.

Big thanks to Wendall for hooking me up with this one!
A: Pours a dark brown, practically black color, one finger of tan foam that dissolves rather quickly leaving a thin cap on tap. Nice sheets of lacing form around the glass.
S: Lots of roasty/charred dark malts, some chocolate, and a bit of dark fruit.
T: A little more plain than the aroma. Some chocolate and a little bit of dark roast, but not much in the way of dark fruit, though there is a little bit right on the finish.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Abv hidden well. Smooth and easy drinking.
O: A decent beer. Drinks very easy, but the flavors just aren't there.

22oz bottle poured into a chalice. Thanks to 67couple for this.
A: Dark brown with barely any light getting through. Just a wisp of tan head forms before fading away quickly. Leaves a very nice lacing tho.
S: Toffee, caramel, molasses, light chocolate and roasted malts, hints of dark fruits. And of course alcohol.
T: Caramel and toffee upfront. Molasses and maybe some anise mixed with roasted/burnt malts make for a slightly off taste in the middle of the tongue. Finishes very boozy, but with nice flavors of dark chocolate and caramel.
M: On the low side of full bodied. Medium high carbonation. Slight creaminess. Overall warmness from alcohol.
O: It's decent. Drinkable. Nothing I would run out to buy. Could definitely see this becoming very good with some age.

Purchased at the brewery during the release. Just pulled it out of the cellar to check it out.
A- Dark mostly opaque. Thin tan head that's still hanging on.
S- Intense malt, molasses, cherries, slight to moderate resinous hops there in the back. Smells like burning in the end.
T- Malt sweetness with burnt sugars. High to moderate hop bitterness cutting through everything nicely. Lingering taste of hops and caramelized sugars in the aftertaste. Slight alcohol burn.
M- Pretty thick mouthfeel. Chewy.
O- Definitely like the burning motif on this one. A nice strong beer for a winter warmer. Glad I have a few more of these that I can continue to age.

Bottle shared by MasterSki prior to DLD. This beer is brown-black and is capped with a short-lived tan head. It is also visibly thinner than the average Imperial Stout (which, apparently, it is not. I thought it was an IS when I was drinking it...) The aroma offers toffee, coffee, roastiness and burnt sugar; it is a hodgepodge of burnt sweetness. The flavor, however, is a significant departure from the suggestions of the nose, as it is more akin to a roasty and acrid BSDA, with spice and dark fruit suggested. There is a suggestion of anise that seems to bridge the gap between char and fruit. Lighter body and abundant carbonation give this brew a Belgian sensibility that is somewhat misplaced. The beer is more interesting than good.

Bottle purchased at the brewery a while back. Ended up bringing to Flossmoor on Friday in order to try side-by-side with the barrel-aged variants. Served in a plastic cup.
A - All the variants looked largely similar. Half-finger of quick-dissolving dark tan foam that settled to a patchy cap and thick ring. Body is near-black with transparent brown glints at the fringes.
S - Dark fruits, candi sugar, chocolate, marzipan, some light grains. Alcohol has largely mellowed since I had this last, which is nice.
T - Taste is worse. Odd "generic" beer bread and yeast character, much lower sweetness, and a strange anise and burnt tar bitterness in the finish.
M - Over-carbonated and a bit thin for 9.5%. Sticky finish, but thankfully little alcohol warmth.
D - The base beer kind of sucked compared to the barrel-aged versions. It's not terrible, but it's not something I'd really want to have again either. It would have been much better if it weren't the acrid finish.

Super dark, black chocolate colored brew with a tan head that doesn't last. Can't see any bubbling in this dark brew.
The aroma has dark roasted malts imbue smells of coffee, chocolate, and soem charred wood. Just a little. There are some momemnts of watery thinness too.
This beer is warm, but not boozy, from the get go. Roasted mlats offering chcolate and black coffee. The finish has some cream and caramel and toffee. Simple, warm , and syrupy is what maed the palate.
Nothing spectacular, but very pleasing and worth picking up again and reccomending in my book.
