Notes: The design reveals it: This beer comes from Bavaria! The specialty from the house of Egerer is balanced and tasty, with a good and surprisingly high amount of aromatic and bitter hops that give the beer a bittersweet character. The color is golden yellow, with a fine white foam crown. To quote the Brewmaster: "It's like sunshine!"

A: Pours a crystal clear pale yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate pale golden yellow + bright yellow colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall fizzy foamy bright white head that reduces to a medium to large sized patch of thin film covering a little more than 70% of the surface of the beer surrounded by a large patch of very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass.

S: Light to moderate aromas of cereal grain + cracker malts with very light amounts of grainy sweetness. Light aromas of grassy hops. Slightly heavier than light aromas of lager yeast.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of cereal grain + cracker malts with very light amounts of grainy sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of lager yeast. Finally there is a very light flavor of grassy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which slowly fades away leaving a relatively clean finish.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp with a relatively clean finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a decently crisp + clean mouthfeel. Nothing special about this one - reminds me of a generic Euro Pale Lager or American Lager rather than a Helles.

CAN: 50cl. Blue and white label. "Exp 05/2021" (seems a bit ambitious). Pull-tab. Acquired as part of Costco's 2019 Beer Advent Calendar ($60 plus tax for a 24 pack of 500ml cans).

4.6% ABV. 3.6% ABW.

APPEARANCE: Pours a clear yellow body of average vibrance...obviously filtered. Head is ~8cm-9cm, white, fluffy, and long lasting (it sticks around a good 8 minutes).

AROMA: 6-row barley. Pilsner malt. Corn-like sweetness. Mild grassy Noble hop character. Subdued airy breadiness.

Clean and inviting, if suggestive of a beer that's a bit too far to the malty sweet side.

TASTE & TEXTURE: Soft malt (6-row, pilsner, pale) marries subdued floral and grassy Noble hop varietals to good effect, with some airy breadiness giving it added body and presence on the palate though it remains clean drinking and approachable. Not too grainy, but a bit sweet for my taste. Finishes on notes of minerals.

Not metallic or otherwise off. Smooth, wet, clean, soft, medium-bodied. Has more weight on the palate and is more filling than you might expect a 4.6% ABV helles lager to be. Less clean yeast presence than I expected...this flirts with a breadiness more redolent of that you'd find in a bock or Marzen.

OVERALL: It's a soft well-balanced clean drinking lager that has room for complexity and subtlety but aside from some unwelcome mineral notes and a weighty mouthfeel is pretty much an ideal pick for pairing with food...the kind of simple brew with moderate depth of flavour you can drink easily without giving too much thought to. A table helles lager I'd happily buy by the sixer at German prices (think 30c a can at Aldi or Lidl).

Appearance: Light golden in color with a large, dense and
small-beaded snow-white head, with excellent retention, Belgian-style lacing decorates the glass walls.

Aroma: The aroma is a bit sweet, rather like cream corn, although I am sure it contains no corn, at all, with that, there are also notes of caramel, and faint, grassy hops.

Taste: The taste opens with moderate herbal and metallic hops, against a backdrop of mildly sweet malt. As the taste professes, there is a distinct flavor of toasted caramel, not overpowering, but definitely noticeable. There is also mild white bread undercurrent. Finishes with mildly bitter herbal and metallic hops.

Mouth feel: Smooth and soft on the palate, pleasing.

Drinkability/notes: Pleasant and drinkable, no complaints.

Presentation: Packaged in a 500 ml, 16.9 ounce steel can, served in a South American-style Pilsener glass. Beer number twenty-two (December 22nd) from the 2017 Costco Advent Beer Calendar.

500mL can, EXP 05/2021. 2019 Kalea/Costco Advent calendar. Crystal clear golden body capped by a foamy white head. Aroma is pale malt, grassy hops, and yeast. Easy drinking lighter flavors of biscuity pale malt, bread dough, and modest grassy & spicy hops. Light-to-medium body, nice carbonation, smooth with a crisp finish. Very refreshing, straight forward, and well put together Helles.

Another cool looking can from the 2016 German Beer Advent calendar .

Pale straw yellow, slightly hazy with a brilliant two finger thick head.
Slight soda cracker malts and slightly grassy hop
Biscuit bread, slightly sweet, slightly metallic flavour that gets balanced later on with some nice hop bitterness.
Medium light body, a tad on the flat side. Could use a slight boost in carbonation.

Another solid German brew..quite quaffable

Mainly blue and white 500 ml can labeled "Urtyp Hell Edel Bayer". It's stamped on the bottom with a production date of July 2015 and a EXP(iration) date of Sept. 2016.

Appearance: Very clear golden body with moderate visible carbonation topped by a decent white head.

Ample malts and hops; no major flaws. Lightly sweet up front but mild+ bitterness by the aftertaste. Hints of lightly roasted nuts and baked bread. Light hops add grassy and herbal notes a well as some faint spicing.

Medium body and medium carbonation.

The Urtyp Hell Edel Bayer is good. It poured a clear yellow with thin white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent is faint...maybe a hint of bread. The taste is even through a solid light Octoberfest beer. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall its good and very sessionable.

Served in a pint.

Appearance: The body is transparent gold and medium bubbles creating a thick white head rising to maybe a finger's length. Drops slowly after a few sips with sticky lacing.

Smell: hops, and old malts..I've smelled a lot better.

Taste: Lightly malty and a touch sweet cream of as the beer warms down.

Mouth: med to almost full, very appealing after-taste.

Overall: Descent brew that which should put a smile on your face, definitely not a classic but good to try something a little different. satisfy the pickiest of drinkers. Salud!

From the Beer Advent Calendar. From the can, it pours golden with a nice head that stays awhile. Light scent, primarily bread in the nose. Bread in the mouth with just a touch of bitterness. Enjoyable.

Again in the 2019 COSTCO Advent Calendar.
