Day 21 of the 2020 Costco Advent Calendar. Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours orange yellow with a fluffy white head. Smells of citrus hops with a little bit of grain backbone. Tastes of German lager grain with some citrus notes. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, an above average beer.

Very dark caramel body; very good head production and lacing.

On the nose, this hits much more like an American Barleywine, or English IPA: tons of caramel malt, bitter hops, bark, leather, and pine. Doesn't smell aged or old, but definitely lacks any real fruitiness from the hops - even citrus.

Quite a bit of citrus up front, before the wave of caramel malt takes over. It's really quite balanced, with moderate bitterness, and the hops are crisp and lively. Very tea-like.

Despite my misgivings from the nose, this drinks quite well. I'm not buying the ~2 year advertised shelf life, not for a second, but the product in my glass? Pretty tasty!

L:. Pours a full darker orangish with a small white head and a few specks of lacing.

S:. Lots of sweet caramel malt, notes of molasses, and then a earthy floral hop, this smells really weird, stuck somewhere between IPA and barley wine.

T:. Sweet caramel and toffee, quite sweet and malty, a bit of hop but seems more malty than hoppy, doesn't really remind me of an IPA.

F:. Higher carbonation medium body.

O:. I would have never guessed this was an IPA if it wasn't on the can.

Taste: crisp fresh herbal hops meet smooth semi sweet malts, with a dry clean finish. Fresh garden hopped and bready nose. Amber color hue, Partly hazy, white foam head and ringed lace. Medium body. very drinkable non-bitter IPA.

Medium light carbonation with about a medium body.
Aroma is malt, earthy floral honey and hops.
Taste is very malty for an ila but it totally worked. There was earthy bitter hops but actually the Malt was dominant and out front.
I can see why ipa fans will not like this but I found it to be delicious

Costco beer advent calendar #21
What! An IPA! Are they out of their minds?!?!
Okay, got that silliness out of my system. An IPA and a pretty good one, looks great, nice head and lacing on the glass, light amber in color and a little hazy, sweet and hoppy like a bitter sweet caramel. Very nice! A standout in collection.

500ml can served in a big snifter. EXP 2022/05. Day 21 of my advent calendar.

Pours a moderately hazy light amber with a big head that collapses into a clumpy layer. Smell is old hay, vague bitterness. Lemon / citrus zest.

Taste is mostly the same. There's some creamy sweetness to it, brings orange julius vaguely to mind.

Mouthfeel is medium, creamy. Overall, it's not bad.

Beer #21 in the Advent Calendar.

This one pours a light brown color, amber maybe, with a small head, and a bit of lacing.

This smells like perfume, caramel malt, stale hops, and tea.

This is really quite bad. It's extremely malty, with a stale and underattenuated sweetness to it. The hops tastes basically just old floral tea, and the malt characters dominates to an unpleasant extent. The pale ale from this advent calendar earlier in the cycle was also bad - this is worse.

This is light bodied, and just not drinkable at all. I didn't and couldn't finish it - that is rare for me.

This is probably (definitely) the worst beer so far in the Advent Calendar. There's nothing to recommend for it.

Poured a cloudy copper body with large head and great lace ring around glass. Aroma is wonderful with a lavender/floral and oily, piney hop aroma with whiff of maltiness. Beer is medium, almost heavy, bodied, with a sharp oily earthiness that is downright bitter and almost metallic at times. Some thick and sticky malts are added in for heft but don’t really add much flavor (just body). The metallic/piney/dirty earthiness is a little too much for me but it’s not a bad IPA.

From the large can, it pours a slightly hazy amber with a nice off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves lacing. In the nose, it is hoppy - piney I think, but the nose is not cooperating today - with some malt. In the mouth, it is hits you with a bit of astringency, bitterness and malt.
