Notes / Commercial Description:
Also known as Premium Pils

Note first the bright, fresh golden colour and rich frothy head so typical of this elegant Pilsner beer. Its refined herbal notes are delicately poised, followed by a nutty and honeyed aftertaste. The overall impression of this gently sparkling beer is one of deep harmony, with the unmistakeable bitterness of the hops balanced and contained by an agreeable, mellow sweetness in the body.

Poured a 500-ml can into a pilsner glass.

Appearance - nice yellow colour, with decent head and some lace. Lots of carbonation.

Smell - straightforward barley-hop aromas.

Taste - very clean taste with just a slightly bitter element in the middle. The end is very interesting as the taste just sort of goes away as a dry beer would do but it leaves your mouth...wet.

Mouthfeel - I actually really enjoy the balance of this beer. Not a tonne of taste but smooth.

Drinkability - this stuff would go down in quantity. I'll seek it again.

When considering a pilsner, is there really any better choice? With ultimate drinkability, bready malts, and spicy/floral hops, this crisp lager hits the spot time after time while avoiding many flaws that plague most.

The beer pours a bright golden-straw color with steady streams of carbonation that fuel an airy and froathy head. Moderate on retention and light on lace- the beer could show a touch better head character.

Dry bread maltiness adds a malty-grainy sweet scent that invites drink after drink. Floral hops with a sharp spicy note gives the perfect earthy balance to the grain/malt sweetness for a complex nose that seems effortless.

Flavor hold serve with a malty sweet upstart with a crisp grain flavor. Light notes of honey suckle and apple give a mild fruity note that's mostly yeast and hops. But the spicy- peppery bitterness gives a distinct crisp and refreshing finish to the beer that's remarkable compared to others of the style. Without screaming complexity, this pilsner has an exquisite balance of flavors without shying away from boldness.

The soft creamy upstart gets confidence from the sweeter taste upfront. But the beer makes quick work of the sweet maltier components and usher in a bitey, yet clean and crisp grain astringency, and minerally 'snappy' finish. Quite dry in the end, the beer defines what it is to be drinkable.

With one sip, the beer becomes spicy-sweet and floral. With the next- bitter, biting, and minerally. All the while, the beer keeps giving waves after wave of flavor for such a simple beer. It's actually quite nice and welcomed.

I live on the east coast in the U.S. and I found a 4 can pack of this beer for 5 bucks and thought the price was wrong as it's imported beer which is usually way more expensive in my area. For some reason I can only keep down imported beer. I thought it was going to taste bad since it was so cheap...but I was surprised that it was quite pleasant tasting. My favorite beer is Stella ...and Sapporo (Japanese beer). This one rates somewhere in the middle, being very refreshing and has a kick to it that says... you are drinking beer!! not flavored water :-). I recommend drinking it very cold. It's great with comfort and fast foods and I will be looking for it again...I hope the price remains this low, as it will be my regular basic go to beer. Way way better than any U.S. beer I have tasted. Cheers!!

In comes in a straw light yellow color.

The aroma has big grassy hops.

The flavor is quite refreshing. It has a gentle kick of grassy hops and then a clean malt finish. The hop bite actually stands out a bit compared to some other pilsners. There's a good amount of carbonation. The cleanness and the easy finish is where this beer stands out.

For me, it also comes extremely cheap. Somehow it's around $6 for four 16 oz. tall boys.

A stand out pilsner.

11.2 oz. Brown bottle (out of boxed 6pack), poured into Tipping Point pub glass.

Light clear golden appearance, nice white head. Fades off to just a lining ring pretty quickly.

Smells fresh (thanks to proper packaging), nice and malty, grassy, some farm hay, slightly floral - very fine.

Taste follows aromas, and just as clean and fresh, perfectly carbonated for enjoying at a quick pace. Clean dry finish.

Feels nice and light, but with enough body to satisfy the desire for a real beer.

Happily satisfied that its taste lives up to the reputation. Best traditional import Pils I've had in a long time, if not ever.

Every beer lover should try this.

A nice appearance with lasting creme. Ok smell. But that's the end of this. Metalic in can taste. Strong carbonation and water. The type of beer you expect in the summer at a soccer game. Appreciation to the marketing rep who bought me a can to review in Toronro.

This is a great German pilsner.
It is easy to drink and has a great malty taste, with the bitterness of hop present.
Drink and enjoy it as a pilsner, not too cold.

So sweetly golden. A shower of sun. Dough and gentle herbs to fill the nose and then the stem. In the drink is the sap. Kind softness, a touch sweet. Forgiving bitter.

I have had this many times. It's an inexpensive choice that I tend to drink in warmer months paired with pizza or Mexican food -- or sausages with roasted vegetables/potatoes. It's also a good session beer for poker night. Bitburger has a decent crispness and I prefer it to Warsteiner. I'm not sure that would hold up in a blind taste test....which I should probably try sometime. I usually purchase it in a tall boy can.

Brilliant clarity with light straw color and long lasting fluffy white head.

Getting a lot of German nobles hops in the nose, pils malt very noticeable with hints of DMS but is appropriate for the style.

Nice crisp, dry taste with a nice balance of noble hops and pils malt, small hints of DMS

Feel could be slightly more carbonated, still has good crispness to it, pleasant bitter aftertaste

A fine, fresh example of a German pilsner, a beer I would down a sixer of on a hot summer day.

I am surprised the rating isn't higher. Smell is grain followed by a neutral hop that was perfect for the style. Taste was similar to the smell with neither the grain or hops overpowering the other. Finished very clean with just a little bitter aftertaste. It is much more flavorful than Heineken. I drank it from a 500 ml can and poured out a small amount and saw it to be medium yellow/gold, the carbonation was moderately high. Very good, enjoyed it and will buy again.

For a pilsner this is as good as it gets with its super malty, crisp flavors. Drink it cellared and flavors truly pop. Do not drink it ice cold or you will be disappointed. Remember it's a pilsner so with that said it's near perfect.

Bitburger Pils may sometimes get overlooked in the beer aisle as another mass produced Euro-swill. Don't be fooled!

Pours a clear golden straw color, light biscuit malt and grass in the nose (classic German), faint hop profile, round cereal semi-sweetness on the tongue that finishes with a clean mineral quality. Bitburger is not going to fight for your attention, but should be enjoyed for its subtle characteristics. At a lower ABV, don't be surprised to put 2 or 3 down without breaking a sweat. Best enjoyed while watching Die Mannschaft carve open some hapless opponent. Ja wol!

Pours a lighter golden color witha pretty nice blooming head that stays pretty well,a light grainy aroma with a light iron-like tinge to it.This beer has a sharp hop edge to it ecspecially in the finish there is a malt bready backbone with a iron flavor in there as well but the bitter finish is the main thing I get from this beer.A quaffer for sure something to drink when u want flavor and quanity.

Appearance – Light straw yellow in color with a pure, white, full head and plenty of carbonation.

Smell – The grainy malt here was laden with refined sugar and lacked the aroma of Noble hops.

Taste – Thankfully the taste backed away from the sugary-sweet nose, but the grain was rather average and, again, lacked a good hop compliment.

Mouthfeel – This light-bodied Pils has some decent carbonation but otherwise was a bore.

Drinkability – This is a mediocre excuse for a German Pils.

Bright light gold with wonderful carbonation and a solid dollup of white cream. Aroma and flavor are rather on the sweet side of the German Pilsener style for me. I prefer quite a lot of dryness in my GPs that this beer lacks. Still, body is light and refreshing. Aroma is pleasing pilsner malts and spicy hops. This is in no way a bad beer, just not my style.

16oz can, hazy golden color with a creamy, white head.

Sweet-tart candyish malt nose with floral hops. Pretty nice overall.

Crisp, balanced flavor with a lemony backdrop. This is a refreshing pils, nothing too crazy going on, good with food, and better than I expected.

I bought a single bottle of Bitburger because the label said it was Germany's best-selling draft beer. Having had Lowenbrau on tap, which was delicious, I wanted to test that claim. How disappointed I was. I understand the Germans like a dry beer, but do they really like something as bitter and characterless as Bitburger? For comparison, I bought Beck's and Paulaner Munchner Hell at the same time and Beck's, which I consider a classic dry German beer tasted almost sweet by comparison and had a more beer-y aroma, as well. The Paulaner was more to my taste, with a touch of sweetness to go with the German quick light finish. I understand that Bitburger has a decent approval rating, but if I had a chance to drink it or five other beers, I save Bitburger for last and hope I could forego the experience. After the Bitburger I switched to a local beer, Pilsen to reassure that my taste buds were still up to snuff. The Pilsen never tasted so full-bodied.
