Triple Hop'd LagerTriple Hop'd Lager
Notes: Brewed in collaboration with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.

A collaboration beer between Bitburger Brewery and Sierra Nevada Brewery, this lager is highlighted by a combination of American hops - Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook - paired together with ‘Siegelhopfen’ – Bitburger’s proprietary and unique hop blend that’s sourced from a farm just a few minutes from the brewery! Unique to this one-time brew, that same farm provided the Cascade hops that lends Triple Hop’d Lager its desirable floral and citrus/grapefruit profile.

Yellow filtered with 6 fingers of yellowish head, and little slow rising carbonation.

Smells of malts, hay, and fresh juicy grass.

Tastes of malt, caramel and a big, dull bitterness of saaz like green, that lingers on the tongue.

Medium, dry but thick body with moderate carbonation.

I got this at tasty brew in Asheville and am drinking it on the mountain near Canton NC, June 24th, 2020.

Pours a hazy golden color with a dense white head, looking like a cross between a lager and a pale ale, which isn’t surprising, given the breweries involved in this collaboration.

The nose, though, is a German pilsner, with grassy, floral noble hop aromas dominating, but leaving room for a subtle citrus note. There’s also a bready note to give the malt a moment to shine.

The grassy, floral flavors are also the preeminent flavors, but the citrus is present, as is the bready malt flavor. The feel, though, is not quite as crisp as I’d like in a lager.

All in all, I’m really digging this. I was concerned it would be an IPL, and it is to an extent, but the emphasis is on the “L” and not the “IP,” which so many of these are.

I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. Gonna pick up a couple of more 6ers of this to enjoy as a summer crusher.

Damn. Not bad. Not bad at all. The thang is just hella smooth and clean like Clark Gable auditioning for a role (as if he had to). It’s nice and bright like Einstein eating breakfast. Yeah, I like that. It’s like a regular Bitburger, but smoother with a lil citrus zest. I’m into it like Gene Tierney wearing, well, anything.

Yep!

330 ml can with a 28 January 2020 canning date and a BB date stamp a full year later. $2.19 from the Wall of Beer in Clemson SC.
Pours with a slightly hazy amber colored body topped by a good white head. Very good lacing.
Delightful sweet and mildly hoppy aroma with floral, herbal and citrus notes. The flavor is substantially stronger and more bitter than the aroma suggests.

11.2oz can served in a nonic glass.

Look- Hazy golden color. Solid off white head with great retention, plenty of lacing. Moderate carbonation streams visible.

Smell- Citrus (lemon, orange, grapefruit), peach, a bit of generic tropical fruit, black tea, honey and bready malt, herbal/grassy and floral notes.

Taste- Similar to the aroma. Nice citrus, peach and muted tropical fruit, red apple, a bit of yeast, sweet bready malts, light pine, floral/earthy hops and light spice.

Feel- Medium bodied. Crisp, slightly sweet up front with a mild tangy bitter finish. Medium/heavy carbonation on the tongue.

O- This is my first experience with an IPL and I like what's going on here. Worth trying before it's gone.

A fingers worth of lush light khaki colored froth... Decent retention... Color is a slightly hazy honey... Nose highlights biscuit, cereal and earthy hops... Palate presents exactly as expected with good balance and decent complexity... Mouthfeel is dense and on the lighter side of medium bodied... Drinkability is off the charts... Nothing fancy, but highly enjoyable and well executed... A bit more than a sum of its parts...

Lovely little collaboration here. Light, mildly hoppy and perfect for the spring season. The nose isn't much to write home about but the hops are perfect and this is a true crusher. We need the Germans to understand that 12 oz. of this delicious elixir is certainly better than 11.2. Not MAGA. Buy with confidence and enjoy.

Pours a fairly clear amber with fine head.

Smell is bready and crackery with plenty of citrus. Clean, but mild.

Taste is a lot better than the nose. Soft breadiness leads into big citrusy notes and a solid bitterness. Hints of knäckebröd. Very clean, very crisp and a bit creamy. Dry and superbly balanced.

Mouthfeel is medium, creamy and well carbonated.

Overall, an excellent modern lager, flavorful but easy to drink.

Finally found this one with about a 5 month old date stamped on it. Beautiful looking beer. Like an unfiltered, cloudy Keller with a huge white froth. Smells really good too. Has that Bitburger yeast character. Really nice full bodied mouthfeel too. Has a nice earthy, cereal grain flavor, but then it starts to go downhill as it gets into the finish where it’s fairly green and bitter in the end with some lemon peel. This was a solid beer. One of those six packs that was easy to finish, but also one that I didn’t feel compelled to buy another of. While I still enjoyed it and rated it based on what I had, I am willing to bet that my rating would be much lower for a fresher version. This had to taste like nothing but an American hopped pale ale back in January.
