Bottle dated 13.01.08.

Pours a dark orange-amber, with a creamy off-white head.
Aroma displays toasted bread crust, notes of honey, herbal hops, and berries, with some mild oxidized and metallic off aromas.
Enters with soft toast, a mild herbal bitterness, with faintly sweet malt notes in a fruity middle, and a soft finish of toast, fruit, and hops. Again, some oxidized off notes in the finish, as well as some off phenolic flavors.
Medium-light bodied - a bit on the thin side.
Overall, disappointing - the beer has some off flavors and aromas and judging from the date on the bottle I dont think its deterioration through age alone. Aside from the off flavors, would be a good, drinkable, Franconian vollbier.

My bottle was labeled "Altfraenkisch", but it seems to be their dunkel as the alcohol and color appear to be the same. From the bottle, it pours a solid amber with a small head. A small bit of malt, clean, in the nose. Solid clean flavor in the mouth. Enjoyable and easy to enjoy!

500ml bottle. label has best by of "01.02.09 /3 /32". tasted in early-mid march 2009, but i was told it's been refrigerated the whole time.

deep, almost dark, coppery amber. clear on first pours. foamy head fades to wisps. splotchy lace here and there.

aroma is weak, but can find some caramelized malt, hint of hops, and metallic whiff.

toasted sweet malts, nutty and caramelized, but with a weird plastic flavor. hints of esters too. mild to moderate noble hop bitterness. metallic notes in the finish.

light to medium body, smooth. lightly prickly carbonation.

Deep, glowing, amber colored beer with a nice off-white colored head. A few specs of lace cling to the glass as the head slowly fades. There aroma is very faint. Maybe some subliminal roasted malt and a crayon? Mild malty flavor is fairly clean with only a hint of sweetness. There are some tea flavored hops in there, and maybe even a drop of caramel. It's got a full mouthfeel, which makes up for the limited flavor. It's mild, and easy drinking. I could drink this all afternoon.

Bought at the Bacchanalia, a fantastic little offie at Cambridge. 500ml brown bottle, BB 10/02/07, served chilled in a weizen glass.

A: dark amber hue; a fluffy beige froth with good retention; moderate fizziness.
S: very mild in maltiness, with a soothing flow of brown malts, hints of boiled Chinese red beans, honey drink, and a very light trace of lemony-fruitiness of a typical lager. Balanced.
T: light-bodied Munich malts and a semi-brown-sugary touch descend on the palate at the same time; refreshing hop bitterness follows with a little tea-ish aroma, as well as some fig jam/paste; a lingering semi-dryish mouthfeel at the back.
M&D: light-bodied and slightly less fizzy than ideal, coming also with a metallic touch overall. A decent dark Landbier in need of more characters, all in all.
